The goals in treating advanced prostate cancer are to maintain a high quality of life, relieve symptoms, and prolong survival. WoW if only it was that simple hey?

Yes Sir. Those things you mention and more. I’ve spent the past two years processing the fact that I’m not curable. It’s ongoing and probably never ending. I’ve improved my skills at reframing negatives into positives. The whole situation is doable, partly because there isn’t much choice. lol. I sometimes even forget I have cancer, but then some TV commercial comes on. darn!

But yes, many challenges. Guess that’s why I come here.

Matt - are you on any form of ADT, or are you purposely letting the PSA rise in hope that it may allow a targetable tumor to become established?

You are obviously still a young man and well into BCR (unfortunately). I've been watching your case because your timeline and pathology are so similar to my own.

Lupron plus Zytiga coming soon. When mets show on a scan. When my MO sticks his hand up my butt he is always puzzled by a “nodule” he feels in the prostate bed. My secret hope is that is where the PSA is coming from, but I don’t count on it. 🙂

Immunotherapy is advancing rapidly and is probably the path to a true cure......But will it move forward fast enough for all the stage 4 cancer patients to benefit ?? Dr. Jonas Salk took his Polio cure from the lab to every school-house in America in just two years. He did not patent his vaccine, making it available at very low cost..My how times have changed....

Many of use here are old enough to remember the ravages of Polio, had friends in wheelchairs or a useless limb. Dr Salk's research was truly revolutionary. And secondary credit goes to Dr Sabin (I attended high school with his daughter!) for taking the next step and putting the vaccine on a sugar cube, making the inoculation much easier to administer and more friendly for young children.

I’ve been on this train closing in on 9 years. It is definitely a balancing act with trying to live a normal life, managing side effects, and trying to stretch out years...that math has been the biggest challenge because of being diagnosed at 44.
