You should not be talking to a surgeon or a medical oncologist about any alternative other than surgery or active surveillance. I have no idea why someone with curable PC would be talking to an MO anyway - they have no expertise in those therapies.
Get your slides read by Epstein for a definitive answer.
There is nothing about your biopsy results that should preclude AS. You have to understand that every hospital has its own rules about AS. NCCN recommends AS as an option for anyone who is low risk (as you now seem to be). There is no exclusion for cancer volume, at NCCN. DF is an NCCN hospital, as is Johns Hopkins, but elects to follow more stringent criteria, apparently.
You have plenty of great choices in Boston, and you owe it to yourself to go out and talk to a few. i recommend starting with Irving Kaplan at Beth Israel.
