Gynecomastia...Treatment?

Since Randy just restarted treatment last month, he has noticed that his breasts seem to be enlarging. It's nothing I've noticed, but he says he can tell a difference. I have an e-mail in to his docs, but just thought I'd throw it out here, too.

What is the treatment for this? And how would any treatment for gynecomastia affect his treatment for Prostate cancer?

After breast enlargement has occurred, 20 mg tamoxifen/day should get rid of it (but don't wait too long to get started). Once it has reduced, he can move to a maintenance dose of 10 mg/day. They used to use chest radiation, but tamoxifen works much better. Tamoxifen selectively blocks estrogen in breast tissue and won't interfere with his other treatments.

You didn't add a signature, but if he is taking Casodex or another anti-androgen (Xtandi), that is the usual culprit. And if he is on intermittent ADT, raloxifene might be a better choice.

Perhaps he's getting Xtandi, then. I could see why they wouldn't want him to take another drug that might interfere with the trial results in some unknown way.
