As I've completed 4 of 6 Taxotere sessions, aside from growing fatigue, I find one of my big challenges has been fevers, which come 4 days after infusion, and last 7-10 days. As most of you on this chemo journey know, that's a dangerous situation when your WBC gets hammered by the chemo. EVEN IF THERE'S NOT AN INFECTION causing the fever, you're headed for the ER/Hospital if it hits 101 degrees to get blood work, cultures, antibiotics and maybe a few days of fluids as a precautionary protocol.
In my case, there's never been an infection, but I've had 2 ER trips and a 3-day hospital visit to be safe. Fevers from my first infusion lasted 7-10 days. Doc thought maybe the Nuelasta caused it, so that was it for my Nuelasta. Second infusion, same fevers came 4 days later, and I've had to do Nupogen shots (on Days 5,6,7,8 & 9) for WBC boosts. I'm 11 days after infusion #4 and I'm still having an afternoon fever, and on at night. Now they aren't as high (99.5-100.5) or as frequent as last week, but I still have to do the water/Tylenol/Advil routine to stay out of the 101 range.
Anyone else having this???
PS: Also on Lupron XGeva monthly shots and daily Casodex. Thanks.
