I am four years out from LDR, Brachy Therapy and am elated to have a PSA reading of <.01! I did not know this was possible while still possessing a prostate???? I am not trying to brag or invite trouble just am scientifically curious. I sincerely consider myself fortunate compared to many others on this forum and hope and pray for their improvements.

I suppose that you got the one that worked as the docs tell us it will work. Maybe one in a million, so you'll be the poster boy!

But, as a Mod, I need to point out that you mentioned > .01 (GREATER than). That leaves a lot of ground to cover. My bet is you meant ......

I wonder about that too. I'm glad for you and others who have such extremely low PSA after primary irradiation. I'd like to just get below .50.

I'm sure TallAllen knows. His is real low too. Hope he enlightens us.

That's great! Celebrate success.

The ProstrCision LDR brachy plus EBRT practice defines "cure" by long term PSA remaining below 0.2. Here's a link to their explanation of that concept Using Zero PSA at 15 Years to Determine Treatment.

They have a very large database of cases they've treated, and they do claim to have a decent success rate achieving that goal. So, yes, it is possible.

(I went through their screening in 2013 with my parameters. Out of their 14,000 member database [at that time], they found only 52 cases matching mine. The success rate with those cases was barely 50%. Their marketing efforts are fairly aggressive, yet they suggested if I had a plan in mind already locally, that probably I should do that. It didn't sound like I would help their success rate!)

Trout, that's great. And I'm sure you meant "less than". My treating RO and uro both told me that they hoped I would reach "zero" PSA (whatever that means). Since I've never had an ultra-sensitive test my readings have only reached .1. Maybe I'll try one of these years just for grins.

In any case i really don't know the scientific answer to your question of how can this happen but will just share that I'm very happy for your results.

Great results.

I am another one that has stayed undetectable after radiation treatment. I think the combination of brachytherapy and external beam so well toasts the prostate that there isn't much left to express PSA.

That's essentially what my uro told me, as I seem to continue clocking in at 0.1 after IMRT as primary treatment.

Congrats! My last PSA was 0.09, so I suppose I could say I'm <0.1, but you have me beat by a factor of 10!

Im thinking its <0.1...pca patients make the same mistakes as labs...see..I "may" just have...cograts...no matter...never mind...no mind...never matter...

Here is a quote I dug out from the late Dr. Peter Grimm:

There is no relationship to the speed of the PSA drop and long term control Some PSA levels take a very long time to reach the lowest level
My Dad was a good example He was treated in 1988 with seeds alone and it took 6 years to reach 0.2 It kept going down after that His PSA went 0.0 for the next 16 years He died last year at 92 with no evidence of cancer
