HDR brachytherapy

Question how exactly does this work .i know you are there for about 7 hours ..are u awake or not ..seems like to be out for 7 hours would be a lot ...how would they expect you to walk and pee after thst so I can go home

But from what the guys here who have gone through it say, not as scary as it looks.

Think I was sedated during the time the tubes were inserted but was awake the rest of the time. They also inserted a catheter while I was sedated to stay in for the duration of the procedure. No walking until they were getting ready to release me later in the day after the procedure was completed and they then removed the catheter and asked me to sit up and then walk around and show I could urinate normally before being released.

I had this last February. I was sedated for the catheter insertion, then woken and waited about an hour to go into the radiation room. Was awake for the radiation treatment. Then repeated to remove the catheters. My first treatment no pain meds, the second one was more uncomfortable and they gave me dalaudin, but I was allergic to it so a bit unpleasant. I played golf the next day after each procedure. Take double doses of AZO (OTC) to prevent urinary burning. I had a sore bottom for a week. Other than that all good.

Hello guys wish me luck please....I guess a catheter would be better than getting up 5 or 6 times s night and burning so bad you cry lol...
I hope I’m wrong but even with flowmax I barely urinate I pray to the lord every night I hope in 6 months this is all better ..... brachytherapy tommorow...

Hi Stan, I had a fairly good HDR experience at UCLA. I was asleep when they inserted the 18 catheters but then awake. about an hour later I was rolled into the room and zapped. I stayed on the gurney all night with the catheters still there. Was an uncomfortable night. By 10 the next morning I was in the lead room again. Then they pulled everything out and after I could pee, they let me go home. I had 10.5 grays each session. Wasn’t too bad. Good luck on your journey. I did document my journey on my site. Yes, you do. What's done is done and worrying isn't going to change anything.
If you had problems with radiation, there's a good chance you would have had problems with surgery too.

I had surgery, but sometimes I think what if I'd had radiation instead.

Can't think about that for very long, as it doesn't lead to anything useful. Although sometimes I consider writing a scifi story about an alternate universe in which I had radiation instead. And went to a different college. And was born to parents whose ancestors decided to live in a different country.

You hve. Way with words, but what you are saying is all bout psyching yourself out.
From reading your posts, Nd having gone through surgery myself, I’m pretty sure that if you’d had surgery, you’d be moaning and groaning about pain, limp junk, leaking, and saying “I can’t live like this, I should’ve done radiation.

You aren’t going to explode. Your alternating between diarrhea and constipation. Your not peeing good. That’s it. No more no less. It’s annoying, but you’re not going to explode. Except if you keep thinking this way, your brain might explode.

Try to take it one day at a time. Your not gonna die. You’ll get through it. This is probably as bad as it will get. It gets better from here. Every time you start thinking this way, just remind yourself, that you may be really uncomfortable right now, but you are also safe right now.nothing terrible is going to happen.
