On the general topic of "pectin", I had been using chewable apple pectin tablets for many years for GERD, and still do. But I can no longer find the variety that I like. Fortunately I had stockpiled a number of jars of it that are just now passing their expiration date, but are still the most effective first line defense against a gastroesophageal episode.
The tablets were sold by Nature's Bounty and were white and powdery, easily chewed and not distasteful. Typically two or three 500mg tablets are enough to quickly terminate an attack, and if not, then I could move on to traditional antacids and famotidine. (I realize there is a GERD forum here on HW)
Anyway, as I can no longer find a comparable product, I ordered several other brands of apple pectin and tried them out, but they were no good. Most are a brown, coarse fiber that clumps and refuses to dissolve. It sounds much like the issues you guys are having with MCP.
