Has anyone had to change plan after 1st HDR Brachy

Dan just had his first HDR brachy. His heart rate is always about 50bpm. Heart rate went to 38.
We have to see a cardiologist next week. Our RO said he could do 33 ebrt and just this one HDR.
We are so disappointed. Anyway, have any of you guys just has one tx HDR? Thanks.

Oh my. What did they attribute to the drop in his heart rate or do they not know and that's why you'll be seeing a cardiologist?

I did two sessions of HDR brachy and then 25 sessions of IMRT, so I would think there's some flexibility in how they schedule this, but I can understand your disappointment. Where is your husband being treated?

is that an increase in the number of EBRT sessions?

That should still be effective treatment, but might change the SE risk profile.

Still, it is disappointing, but that kind of heart rate drop is scary. Glad that's getting checked out.

We are in Atlanta. We live in Little Rock and have rented a place. The anesthesiologist had atropine ready if Dan coded. Actually, his heart rate dropped when he had his colonoscopy in June. Our hope is that the cardiologist clears him. I hate for Dan to come all this way and not be able to complete this. If he needs a pacemaker maybe we could go home, get the pacemaker and come back and have the 2nd HDR? It seems as though I read that the treatments can be weeks apart? Thanks.

Re-reading Dan's signature and I didn't realize he already had EBRT last month. So if he's not cleared by the cardiologist then you would add additional EBRT sessions on the back end of his brachy?

Sounds like a tough situation if the same thing happened to him during his colonoscopy. Keep us posted re the cardiologist.

Dan has completed 22 of 28 EBRT. The RO said that adding 5 more EBRT and not having 2nd HDR
would offer the same 5 year survival? However, he said the urinary and bowel problems would be worse in the short term. Our GI and PCP were not really concerned with Dan’s heart rate drop during the colonoscopy. I think having the 2nd HDR is worth coming back for if a pacemaker is needed? Thanks you guys.
