I am going for a prostate MRI in a few weeks and when I made an appointment they told me to have an enema the morning of. I had a few MRI's in the past, none required an enema. Has any had this requirement prior to having a MRI? I am thinking the person reading my prescription in making a mistake because it is also for a biopsy after the MRI.

I had to do an enema before my prostate MRI. I think it's fairly standard for this particular procedure.

You prostate sits right on top of your large colon. The enema cleans that out so you get a clean picture of the prostate and not of a lot of crap.

Depends on if you can go before or not, they did not have me do one, but made me get out of machine half way through to go number 2. UGH!

Standard procedure, as has been pointed out already.
Also no eating for a number of hours prior. Don't remember if there are restrictions on drinking.
