Seems like almost every day someone accidentally hits the New Post button when they meant to Reply. I just did it for the umpteenth time, but I'm far from the only poster with that affliction. Mods, is it two late to modify the "new" forum format to make the two buttons different colors or different shapes?

Now there is a Nice/New -> Post Quick Reply box/function that when used properly ONLY has a Submit Post button that is BLUE in color.

But to answer your question-> NO.... The owner of Healingwell would have to get with the owner of the Software Company and ask them to make the change.

Paying a little more attention to what you are doing is the easiest option.

If this were commercial software, I'd agree.
But I THINK this is open source software, okay to modify.
It's a property of the button object, which means you wouldn't really be changing the software but just a setting of it.

It could be in an initialization file, but probably not. Likely hard coded.

SP, I've noticed the same thing and think this is a good suggestion. I have no idea whether or not it can be done but will pass your message on to the site owner.

Just noticed this an active server page, it is most likely a setting that can be easily changed.
But not likely open source, but it is just a setting.

before the software upgrade -- yes it used to be worse -- it was much easier to accidentally start a new thread. I think since the "new' software was implemented a couple of years ago I have started a new thread only once and before many more times. I know that doesn't help but it was worse before.

I've told Saipan many times he was submitting to unneeded ADT.

So I believe it's a PEBKAC issue fueled by excessive hormones.

The "D" in ADT is for deprivation...kinda the opposite...

Of course it’s PEBKAC. That doesn’t mean the design flaw shouldn’t be fixed if easy to do.

If the color or shape can’t be changed, maybe just change “Reply” to “SP, Click Here.”

Lol. I learned a new acronym today. I actually like PICNIC alternative better. It’s easier to remember for those of us prone to PEBKAC.

I do wonder whether a moderator can move a post to the appropriate thread. I moderate another forum and can do that; but it uses different software.

Mods here do not have admin-style rights, so no, we can't change the software, can't move posts from one thread to another, any of the stuff that is really a site-admin function.

I couldn't tell you what the software is, only that it is the original the site was born with, and seems to be tedious. Peter had to do a lot of work to get the "mobile friendly" features that some were begging for.

That is what all the recent changes were about. They are here and done.

I don't do "mobile", so I can't explain any of it, but the core was being able to run better on smart phones and pads.

I’m not a fan. There used to be a “jump to the top of the page” button that has gone away. I seem to spend half my time scrolling when I’m on my phone at the site.

I also don’t like that we lost the tag indicating which member made the most recent reply...this feature is present when using computer, but missing from mobile screens. That was very handy for 2 reasons. If it was a thread I was active in, I could tell if there was a new entry by someone else since the last time I read it; now I’m forced to open, scroll down (ugh), take a look, then scroll up (ugh) again if I’ve already seen it. The other reason was that I would often skip new posts by certain members; if I saw, for example, that the most recent post was from “F8” then I wouldn’t bother to open it then...perhaps coming back to it later after someone else posted.

The current format is more time consuming and cumbersome than the old, especially on mobile. I’m not a fan of the extra work required.
