Okay, Had my Bone scan....
I have a lady from the Ins, who is a mediator, I can call her and she get's things done....
I told her my next URO appointment was 8/28 and that I didn't want to wait for results that long....
She called my URO and explained that too him, And ask for my results, Uro said I hand to come in so he could discus it with me....
So she set me up for 6/6 @ 1115
All I wanted to know was Mets or no Mets, Should I be concerned That I have to go in for an explanation....

With HIPAA there is great reluctance to share information.

A friend said that with his doctor's office, after a test they will call you on the phone with the results. He said that if the nurse calls he can breath a sigh of relief but if it's the doctor making the call.....

Not necessarily. All doctors are a bit different in their approach. I guess I'm not quite sure why the mediator had to be involved...had your doctor refused your personal phone call? If so, I would find that disturbing as all of the good doctors that I've had would speak with me on the phone if I insisted.

P.S. Another thought after reading Sailor's comments is that I also doubt you have mets. Both for the reason that he said plus the fact that your next appointment was in August and I can't imagine a doc waiting that long to give you any news of mets. So here's hoping for the best.

I didn't go the Med School of course, but it seems unlikely that you would have developed metastases. My reasoning is that you finished radiation only six months ago, had hormone therapy, and that you were 'clean' (T2B) prior to treatment.
What was the rationale for a bone scan at this point in time?

I don't know why the Bone scan at this point.
And my August appoinment was set way before my Bone scan....
Keep in mind, My URO is the worst about giving you any info, In person our not....

Idog that goes without saying in this paradigm...but I am so glad you said it...a good idea for a thread...that I will not start for obvious reasons to all those aboard the HMS Healingwell… Why are so many newbies so afraid of the their local URO or anyone in the medical system...I reckon I've skewed the results of that just by staining{another spell check avatar} it...and so it goes. thas right avatar...it fits with no effort on no ones part ya know once one accepts more than 3 dimensions...time...bah humbug and the reality that folks are mainly primal animals thumping chests and making noise with the silent scream of spirit...well things make a lttle more sense...cause and effect....going ...going ...gone...welcome home....'jonny...I hardly knew ya'... PS...don't save up fears and doubts that unleash and lash out at a time unsuited...stay in the pocket...not behind...not ahead...makes for a fun ride...as eyes roll and teeth gnash without control...express logged in...not logged out

Urologists have a bad habit of hanging on to PC patients longer than they should...Treating Cancer is outside their specialty and training. I would make a Medical Oncologist your team leader (have the Insurance rep recommend one) and go from there. Most larger treatment facilities have a internet service where patients can check their lab reports online a day or two after the test.....

This is why all patients should sign up for "MyChart" or what ever e-record is offered. All my medical documents ( office notes, lab, Radiology ...) show up in a day or so.

I was told the only report that doesn't flow over is pathology.

I second Hero’s suggestion. Signing up for my patient portal was the biggest anxiety reducer for my treatment. I get my test and scan results within hours. The added advantage is having your questions ready for the doctor on the upcoming visit and no surprises when you’re sitting in the doctor’s office .

All the portals I am on usually require the doctor's review and release before posting test or scan results. Thus my PCP (My Chart) is really fast and he provides an explanation if needed (same day or next day on PSA's and blood work that they can do in-house). On the other hand, my specialists (all have different medical records systems) are not as fast as a general rule with test results and forwarding scan results, pathology, etc. I suspect it has to do with surgery schedules, multiple office locations, and most seem to be really busy compared to my PCP.

I do have to manually obtain my own scans and imaging and have to call a specialist's office sometimes to get something posted to the portal that I think is missing or was told is coming and doesn't show up. URO called with my Epstein results from home one evening but I had to call to get the actual report posted to the portal since someone dropped the ball.

In my case it led to a bit of DIY diagnosis.

After my biopsy I was told results would be in 4 days or so. I waited a week and started getting anxious. Then 14 days had gone by. I'd called the urology dept and could only leave a message. They said they would call back with 48 hours. I took a deep breath and went online and found my biopsy results on my own.

I didn't know the first thing about what I was reading other than "carcinoma" didn't sound good. I called by regular doc and he got urology to call. It seems that since I'd seen a PA initially that my biopsy results went to her and she neither called nor forwarded them to my uro. By the time I got in for a consultation I'd used Dr. Google to explain my results and learn about treatment options. Since I knew treatment of some kind was on the horizon I looked up what where the top rated hospitals were for this and I called Cleveland Clinic, 5 states away, and ended up going there. When I met with my local uro she was apologetic and concurred with the Cleveland decision as that's where she did her training.

My full pathology report in available in MyChart through Cleveland Clinic. Maybe it depends on the institution.

My PSA was up after RP so I was referred to a RO. He ordered a PET scan to check for mets before starting any radiation. My Chart accidentally popped up the results before my RO meeting (right before our vacation) & showed multiple mets. I did not tell my wife and enjoyed the Colorado mountains for 5 glorious days. My RO could not believe those results showed up b/c they should not have been released. But no way should you wait that long for results.

I can't image not signing up. I have 7 My Charts!

What is needed is a program to connect all your medical info in one site.
