I just came from the Urologist. My PSA is elevated 18.5. The doctor did an examination and found a hard lump on the prostate. I will be going back for a TRUS/Biopsy.
So worried that this is cancer. I have no symptoms at all.
I am a 62 year old male.

That's not what you wanted. In its early stages, PC has no symptoms. But, a PSA test alone isn't a test for PC and while your PSA is high you still don't know for sure what is going on.

The lump could be any number of things. Sadly, you're stuck in that horrible place of waiting for the biopsy.

Even if the worst is true, you've every reason to expect a good outcome. PC is a treatable cancer and while there will be side effects and normal will change - you'll be okay and this will just be a major bump in the road.

Do let us know what the biopsy results are.

Do you have a PSA history or just the one test? Regardless, your PSA and the DE do indicate the need for a biopsy. While I hope the result is negative, as Andrew mentioned above, PCa is very treatable and most of us do very well. Sorry you have to play the waiting game...hang in there!

Thank You Andrew & Michael. I will let you know what the biopsy results are. Not having it done until July 1st. I will stay positive. I am an actor/singer so there is a lot to keep my mind busy.

Hi Tim - I went through this last year and share your anxiety. Not the best of news but until you get the biopsy results, it is pointless to worry too much about it, easier said than done, I know.

It may be worthwhile to ask your urologist if he can do a MRI-TRUS guided biopsy. It is much more helpful to screen with a high powered MRI first and see what the radiologist can find. Many urologists can fuse the MRI image with the ultrasound imaging and direct biopsy sampling towards suspected "areas of interest". This way there is a better chance of getting representative samples of what might be going on. I had it done first and it was pretty clear I had two "lesions" that the URO sampled in addition to the normal pattern. My signature tells the rest of my story.
