Well, I am now at nine (9) years post Brachytherapy and my PSA is still a 0.11 that’s zero point eleven. Now, the new “fly in the ointment”, is that I have just been diagnosed with Colon Cancer. Just had a PET scan which indicates no other cancers being spread YET. To sum up my count, I have had: Soft Tissue Sarcoma (surgery, chemo and radiation) then, Prostate cancer, Kidney cancer -removed one kidney, ureter and bladder cuff, Bladder cancer and now the latest, Colon cancer. Have not been informed of the TNM count but this coming Saturday, I am having a consult with the Surgeon specializing in surgery for Colorectal cancer problems. I have had so blasted many different cancer diagnosis (sp?) that a new diagnosis is kinda like water rolling off a ducks back. My hope is that a Laparoscopic procedure will be used as that was the procedure utilized for my kidney removal and it was almost without any recovery problems. If any of my fellow PC guys do believe in prayer, please keep me in mind. I’ll turn 83 this year and my “goal” is to hit 85 and still “get around” quite well.

Well Sir, that is quite some resilience you have going on - and a wonderful attitude. I have the feeling you'll make it through this one too.

Could you tell us how the colon cancer was discovered? I believe that 'mature' gents like you usually do not get routine colonoscopies.

But other than those cancers......geesh.....at least no melanoma. Get some vitamin D in the sunshine. Wishing you luck to 85 & beyond.

Thanks to everybody who responded/commented/wished luck for me. Saw the Colorectal Surgeon today and I can say that my spirits are truly lifted after his comments. Apparently the first opening he has available is for August 30th and he indicated Robotic surgery should be just fine for me and that he feels with the Robotic way, he can definitely see my interior much better. Also he is going to do a Proctoscope on me this week just to make certain all is well on the South end. This Tuesday I go for Labs at the VA and hopefully my PSA is still at zero point something. Surgeon also indicated that no other “hot spots” on the recent PET scan. So, here we go again. When I stated that it is starting to look like I might just make
my goal of 85, the Doc said that my overall health is very good so should be shooting for 90.

83 is quite a feat. I think all of us on this forum would be happy to make that number.... but, assuredly, once there, we'd also want more time. That is one thing that binds us as humans... we will never have enough time, not on this Earth anyway. That is where faith comes in.

My latest PSA results should be available by July 30. Even though the Brachytherapy procedure was accomplished nine (9) years ago, I still get kinda “antsy” about receiving the latest test results. Hopefully still at ZERO. Yesterday, I had a “Flexproctoscope” which I had never heard of. This was to check the far South end of my colon (rectum) since I was recently diagnosed with Colon Cancer. Was put totally to sleep but NOT under General anesthesia. Recovery (wake up) was very quick. Results were negative and there were really no pains before, during or after the procedure. Now, getting to my Prostate, it must be growing a bit or my uretha must be getting scarred up from the many cystoscopies and catherizations I have received over the past four years as the urine seems to be really taking it’s time making it’s exit and usually feels like I am peeing kinda hot water. Of all the numerous Cysto’s and catheters I have had, the only little bit of discomfort during the procedures are when the scope passes through the Prostate but only lasts about a second or two.

Just got the results of PSA tested a week ago. Is 0.14
Three more weeks and the Da Vinci robot will be used to carve out my colon cancer. I hope I can trust that robot and it’s operator too of course.

You give hope that even with all of these cancers, prayer and medicine can work effectively. I seem to be a magnet these days for another cancer and scary other issues. Three weeks ago I awoke with stomach pains and a few hours later I was in the ER with acute appendicitis. Surgery and pathology revealed a very rare aggressive cancer in the appendix. CT scan of abdomen and chest was clear so I will have right hemicolectomy next week to remove the ascending colon to check lymph nodes. If that were not enough to worry about, last night I passed blood clot in urine. My urologist thinks it's late hermaturia from the radiation I had 4 1/2 years ago. Will check me out tomorrow. It's always something.

Hepufnstuf. Sounds like you may have some radiation proctitus like I have experienced. While getting a flexsig a few years ago, the Doc pointed out numerous apparently new tiny blood vessels probably caused by my radiation (Brachytherapy). She indicated that it’s usually no big deal to have numerous new vessels. Will your hemicolectomy be accomplished by open, Laparoscopic or the Da Vinci Robotic? Praying all goes very smooth for your procedure.

Although my Primary Doc indicated that at my age 82, a colonoscopy should not be necessary but because I insisted on the colonoscopy, the Gastrointestinal Doc found the mass in my descending colon. So, us older folks still have to be on the lookout for these dang “monsters”.

Glad to hear you were vigilant.

BT guru Dr Peter Grimm cautions men with BT be "vigilant" with lower genitourinary and colorectal secondary cancers for the rest of their lives, especially when there are predisposed genetic or environmental factors which you probably discussed early on with Dr Moran.

Blackjack. I am attempting to determine if I am predisposed with genetics/DNA “damage”:by having a test for the Lynch Syndrome. I really don’t recall Dr. Moran mentioning that with BT the possibility risk of radiation associated NEW cancer spots. As already indicated, I do have some radiation proctitus but I believe that to be rather minor (at present time).
