Nytngale, I just remember the dark times and what I call my "hair on fire" panic. Not that I don't still have times of the belly cramping fear, but it's not our focus, anymore. If I could round up all the wives that I see here and on other forums who are dealing with those crazy days, and hug them and talk them down from the ledge, I would. While we ladies may not fully understand how our men feel at the changes and losses they endure, I see myself in these "will he live" posts. There's nothing like the unbridled terror at the thought of watching our men in pain, and of losing our other halves.

Since Randy's diagnosis, though, I've met lots of folks who've began with a dire prognosis, but who are now years past that and doing well. When I started hearing those stories, I started feeling less paniced and more hopeful. The contrast between where we are and where we thought we'd be 5 years post failed surgery, with a scary pathology report is huge. ADT is no joke, other treatments have their downside, it's not all sunshine and roses. But he's here and enjoying his life. If sharing that helps one single person sleep better tonight, then that's a win. We wives/partners/significant others need to hold each other up, so we can hold up our guys.

I have learned to find comfort in the stories of the others as well. We are now a year into this journey and like you, it no longer dominates every waking moment. I find that my anxiety begins to rise about a week prior to the next MO visit. Once we've gone and had a decent PSA report, things settle back down and we move on with life. Living life in 3-month increments. I pray that he will be one that treatment will be effective for, for many years to come. In the beginning, it seemed that all we received was bad news - the initial worry of elevated PSAs and abnormal exam, the biopsies with G7 and 8, surgery with even worse news. Our first good news was a radical drop in his PSA shortly after surgery. Then it persisted, then dropped nicely after the start of ADT. Now we've had several non-detectables. Such a rollercoaster, but we're learning to live through it and appreciate all of the small things every day. We definitely, as spouses need to support one another, so we can remain strong for the guys who are actually living with this.

Yes, Thanks so much ladies! I actually think it may be harder on you than it is on us mentally.
My wife started out with not eating at all for a while after. The thoughts that I may not be around are more real for her than they are for me. She calmed down a lot after visiting the Urologist at Vandy and he answered all her questions and took time with her.

I will most likely copy these replies and have them handy the next time she gets her anxiety up and running.

bbqdude, if it will help, she can email me anytime and I'll be happy to give her my phone number. There is a small group of wives that make occasional contact with each other to help each other keep perspective when something scary (or something good) happens. Sometimes talking it through with someone who gets it is all we need. It's hard to discuss all that comes with this disease with people who haven't lived it.
