Hi. I am three years post Robotic surgery and I am laying in the hospital after a hernia surgery from the operative area at the umbilical area. Is this common to get hernias?
Thanks. Just didn’t see that coming

Sorry to hear you're having to deal with that.
I don't know the stats, but yes, we do hear of this from time to time. Don't think it's common (i.e. happens to lots of guys), but it is a thing that happens.

You might have had a predisposition for an umbilical hernia and the incision below the navel may have triggered it. I had one repaired some years ago and told Urologist so he moved incision down a little and made sure they stitched it up real well after surgery. Hernias seem to happen with surgeries in this area from time to time.

My hernia surgeon said yes. Hernia repair at same hospital as RARP.

Sorta common, but skewed by this study finding:
“Postoperative IH occurrence was significantly associated with low surgeon experience.”

It happened to me a couple of months after RP my surgeon said it was real common they bring out the prostate thru the belly button and guess what that's where I got it. Actually took longer to heal from that then the RP surgery.

Had the same thing, same place. Got it fixed about
a year after surgery. Surprisingly sore for a few weeks... NewspaperLovet

Yeah, pretty common, actually. I had mine fixed a couple of years ago.

I had my umbilical hernia repaired a year BEFORE by Robotic surgery.

- I wish... More like I bumped it and it hurt like hell. Didn't want to do that again.
