Fairly interesting article in which some public health researchers were asked to give their views on mortality over the next 20 years. They pretty much agreed heart disease and cancer would remain the major killers (no surprise). Interesting to me was some discussion on climate change and drug resistance setting the stage for pandemics. Also, the increasing separation of rich and poor classes which is pushing whole groups of people out of their sense of community and into "otherness," resulting in an increase in stress and disease.

A huge number of people in this country and many other countries die from gunshot wounds.. Nine Billion people now swarming over the planet, stripping its resources, fighting for some sort of decent life everyone trying to get the upper hand..Things could get rough..Just look at how polarized WE have become....! Dying of old age could become a rare event..

We're probably due some sort of plague to wipe out some of the population.

Never in the history of mankind has there been a more prosperous and protected class of people (all classes) than those living in this country during the last 75 years.

We've become spoiled, fat and entitled.

Same thing we've always died from: cardiac arrest--after all, isn't that ultimately what kills us all? Our hearts stop beating.

fairwind, only 7.7 billion, gunshot deaths in the USA are about 33,636 as of 2013, of that 2/3 are suicide. PCa kills slightly less than that every year.

Me, I'll take a hunting accident in Alaska, maybe mauled to death by a grizzly while gutting a massive elk.

Sounds like Mad Max. I seriously doubt things are so dire.

Cigarettes kill far more Americans every single year. I would not be surprised to find out many here smoke.

Heart disease will remain a major killer of humans, IMO. Bad food is embedded as a part of our culture. It kills.
I am trying vegan right now. Today is day one and I’m ready to ..well, I can’t say it, it’s against forum rules.

Cancer, at least many forms of it, will, IMO, increasingly become a chronic disease, due to advances in. Targeted therapy.
