Too late for many of us. But fantastic news for the upcoming generations.
prostate cancer test which can be carried out at home and avoids invasive medical examinations has been developed by university experts.
Medics hope patients can receive an earlier and more accurate diagnosis by providing an urine sample as part of an at-home collection kit.

That's very interesting, if it indeed works. For whatever reason, some guys might be more inclined to test at home.

If such a test becomes popular, I wonder if the Task Force will lose its collective mind? 😀

As has been noted in threads before, the Holy Grail of PCa diagnosis and treatment would be: diagnose with a urine test, treat with a pill.

Maybe we're getting close to achieving half of that goal.

The test kit was evaluated on a panel of 14 men. Are they kidding?

BTW, I hope such a test will become available. In some ways it might be similar to the colon cancer test that is heavily advertised on TV.

Well, Sr. Sailor, having used cologuard myself, it all starts with a doctor visit and THEY have to order it. The patient can't get it without a doctor's orders and instructions.

Without that, i see a lot of undue anxiety. And demands for doctors to take action based on the findings that the patient interprets for himself.

Hard to believe they preferred peeing without a DRE to having a finger shoved up their ass first.

self diagnosis is seldom a good thing. i think most men who are motivated to keep up on their health have no problem seeing a doctor.

I believe that your wife should do it for you. So it's not exactly a "self-test."

DRE exam can only reach part of the gland, and diagnosis depends on how good a “touch” the doctor has. No where near as reliable as PSA as a leading indicator. PSA requires only a small blood sample — done in a few seconds. I think PSA is a medical miracle which is too easily taken for granted. Yes, PSA can return scary numbers that turn out not to be cancer, but how many times has that been reported on this board? More importantly, PSA provides an easy to assay number which can lead to early diagnosis, not to mention tracking treatment efficacy. Prior to PSA, most prostate cancers were diagnosed too late to do much of anything — akin to pancreatic cancer today. Another example, breast cancer has no comparable metric and much more difficult to diagnose — many false positives. Men already have access to s powerful tool in PSA — if they would understand and use it.
