Temporary stopping of Zytiga

This may not be a big deal, but I've run out of Zytiga due to a DR/Pharmacy/Insurance co debacle. It's getting resolved in 3 days, but I'm without Zytiga for that time. I've taken two tabs / day the past two days to stretch it out. Staying with prednisone (5mg) -- but wondering if anyone has stopped Zytiga for several days, then started back up. Thanks much!

Yes I have. To allow my liver to recover. And now I take 750mg daily. I had an insurance debacle once and CVS screwed up. They hired a guy from Pittsburgh to drive 4 hours to deliver my bottle. Even when off zytiga my PSA stayed at zero.

Okay, thanks guys. Appreciate it. Ironically the Zytiga may be getting tired of me. PSA now at 0.9 and I’ve had a Guardant 360 test to see what’s next. Xtandi a possibility. Thanks again.

People have switched to dexamethasone from prednisone to keep the zytiga working. Ask your MO.

I have been on ZYTIGA, continuously, for 50 months.

I was back in my hometown, for Thanksgiving, and was getting ready to head back, when I suddenly got a flu virus that knocked me out for a few days.

I had put my ZYTIGA in one of those daily pill dispensers that you use when traveling.

Sure enough, I ran out of ZYTIGA in a couple of days --- I had to stay in my hometown while recovering.

I asked my doctor about the "lapse" of a few days --- he didn't seem alarmed or concerned.

Lesson learned --- I'm back in my hometown for Christmas, and have packed EXTRA medication this time.

I think this could happen to anyone traveling --- especially with airport issues, cancelled flights, weather delays.

My new "mantra" for future travels: plan ahead when traveling … and take extra medication along, just in case.

A lesson to be gleaned, from my cautionary tale, from first-hand experience!

With PSA now at 1.2 -- up from 0.40 in August -- we're sticking with Zytiga for now and replacing 5 mg Prednisone with 0.5 mg Dexamethasone. Fingers crossed... Thanks for the input. (PS Good luck in the game Saturday)
