AUS Saga - Chapter 4 (I think)

A few days before Christmas, Randy started having cramping in his bladder. The doc who inserted the supra-pubic catheter recommended Azo. He said that the tube can irritate the bladder. So, Randy took Azo. Christmas morning, there were several nasty looking blood clots in the catheter bag. I emailed the NP, but didn't get a response. On Thursday morning I called the docs office. The nurse said that if there were any more clots, to come in to the ER. There were none on Thursday. Friday morning, they were back with a vengeance. I left work and we made the 2 hour trek back to the ER. By the time we were seen, the catheter back was filling up with blood. . A little while later, the SP tube occluded from one of the clots and had to be flushed. Randy was in a lot of pain. It turns out he has an UTI. He's being watched overnight and the urology team will be in sometime this morning. Right now I'm sitting in the dark on an uncomfortable hospital chair listening to Randy snore and wishing I had never even heard of an AUS. At this point, Randy hasn't peed on his own for 27 days. I'm thinking that the window for "giving it time to resolve itself" has closed.

Donna, sorry you and Randy are going thru this. I know nothing about the AUS's except what I have read and brief discussions with doc's. I have talked to two doctors about getting one but am a long way from doing it. I will be watching and will pray Randy has gotten some relief.
