In a quick search I find one 5 year old thread on the subject of libido / erections / lupron. Since my choice to go ADT / IMRT was strictly to have some chance of retaining sexual function I would like to have had more information on the subject ahead of time.

I was given the impression that lupron would be the end of libido, assumed no erections, know erections are needed to maintain erectile tissue health, determined to have erections to maintain health.

The reality has me confused and am interested in others' experience or information. Dunno whether this is the new norm or more whether to expect more changes. Began lupron February 19, have had a 1 month injection and a 4 month injection with another 1 month ahead. Began IMRT April 15.

I assumed no libido means no arousal, but find that I do feel arousal after two months lupron. I am surprised that I not only have no interest in erections, but feel annoyed at the idea of spending time on having erections. No desire for orgasm during erection. I intentionally do have erections almost daily to try to maintain erectile tissue health.

Where does it go from here?

Some posts here have suggested that ADT = ED. Like you, that was never the case for me. I could have erections, I just had zero desire to do anything with the erection. (Although I'm not sure if they actually annoyed me.)

I think you're doing the right thing in terms of maintaining penile health. FWIW, five years after stopping ADT, everything works fine for me in that department, although recovering my T was a long process and I still consider my libido lower than it was previously. Of course, I'm also older so it's hard to know how that factors in.

in another month you won't be asking because you won't care. it's kind of freeing actually.

Actually I don't have an interest now, but do it anyway for sake of future health. I would be curious to know how many men are not aware of need to maintain erectile tissue and come out a bit short-changed at the other end.

Brings up the question of connection between libido and arousal and how others experience it. I did look forward to not having libido and--I thought--arousal so I could relax with medical staff touching or probing. It turns out I can be aroused by touch and fantasy..

how long will you be on ADT? I was on Lupron for nine months and I did no maintenance and have to issues except I do take cialis.

I was originally set for 6 months on lupron, but I asked the RO whether I can just do 5 months. He agrees, so now to get the urologist's take.

I was set for 1 month, 1 month, 4 month, but after the first month I suggested that the second injection should be the 4 month so I would not be around frail clientele during the corona virus lockdown and they agreed.

I agree with F8 on losing libido as kind-of freeing. I have complete ED and no T. I continue to use the pump to retain organ health and area blood flow. Peyronie's and ossification are things I wish to avoid. I very much love my post-menopausal wife. I deliberately think sexual thoughts despite having no libido. It is an exercise and it works for me. smile

Radiation therapies can do as much damage to the structures in the area as surgery. It just takes some time to arrive. Pretty much all of the risks are there with either path. Those are amplified when combined. You adjust. smile
