Just 4 days removed from my last CyberKnife treatment and had talked before treatment began with my RO about maybe taking small nightly doses of Sildenafil Citrate. I meet with him again next week, but was wondering what experiences, after radiation treatment, others have had with this, particularly the time between end of treatment and the beginning of the pill taking.

manich, I'm a surgery guy but...I started taking 2.5 mg cialis daily fairly early after surgery--the surgeon's perspective is that it helps open up blood flow in the pelvic region, which is good for general recovery from the treatment injury. I've been taking it since (5 years), and everything works just fine, thank you.

manich, I, too, have taken Cialis (5 mg/day) since the end of my CyberKnife radiation treatment. In my case, it was not for penile rehab (had problems before, same issues now), but for BPH. Cialis is also approved as a long-term treatment for the urinary dysfunction/reluctance of BPH.

We figured that there are no negative side effects (for me) and my insurance covers it well, so why not?

Had SBRT three years ago and it had no impact on our sex life regarding erection. I did notice some very mild burning at orgasm similar to the burning I also had on urination. Both resolved on their own in about two weeks. Reduction in ejaculate has been the only side effect and as I recall that happened immediately. Fortunately I have no experience with the Sildenafil meds. My urinary function before and after treatment remains excellent. During treatment I was requested to push fluids and I did during treatment and for a few weeks following until I had no more burning. I found the actual treatment as well as any side effects to be almost a none event. I’m just a data point of one though and I’m curious to hear others. I was seeking a treatment that was effective, easy, safe and free of unwanted side effects and for me that’s what I found.

Since radiation takes a while for effects to become apparent, do you have a problem now that you are trying to treat? SBRT is high dosage so maybe you can be good before you start and have ED right after treatment. Your RO should be able advise.

Surgery is different with the effects being immediate thus most urologists start a low dose regiment early on with variations in dosage and timing between doctors.
