Does anybody have an experience with prostate stromal sarcoma PSS?

My husband is 80 years old was diagnosed with prostate stromal sarcoma. It is a very rare cancer, no much info around. Any thoughts and suggestions will be greatly appreciated . We are going to MD Anderson for second opinion.

Venthum, sorry you have to deal with this.
I don't have any knowledge of your issue, but be patient, as someone will likely come along soon who does, or who can at least point you in the right direction. Obviously you are in good hands with MDA.

Very rare in less than 0.1% of PCa cases. Usually relatively low PSA and often accompanied by bladder emptying problems. Most effective treatment is radiation and chemotherapy.

Where are you located? MD Anderson is a good choice. Also Tulane with Dr. Oliver Sartor and Mayo Clinic with Dr. Eugene Kwan. All very experienced with the tough situations.

Thank you very much for your response! Our urologist mentioned that this particular cancer doesn’t respond to radiation...We live in MidWest-between Chicago and Detroit.MD Anderson has a sarcoma Center, this is why we want to go there.Pathologist sent the suspicious biopsy’s to Mayo Clinic and from them we got the report about PSS.Thank you again for your input,all information is so important!!

Hi Venhum and Welcome to the Forum! This tumor is indeed very rare. The literature seems to be almost entirely case reports, however, this one also has a review:

Prostatic stromal sarcoma. A case report and literature review (2018, Full Text)

The young patient in this case report underwent a prostatectomy. Depending on the general health of your husband, I would think surgery is not out of the question at age 80. Studies on RP in the elderly seem to emphasize that general health is more important than chronological age.

Thank you so much! What a great source with references!! It also good to know, that general health is more important than chronological age! He is very active, he walks every day at least a couple miles. He was always a very active. He has problems with his spine-degenerative disk disease. Since May he started to complain about pain with sitting in his rare end. We were thinking it was a sciatica ,so he had almost 15 sessions of physical therapy, it didn’t work out.Then he started to have some false positive bowel movement and a couple cases with urine inconsistency.After that we met a urologist.
