Plus they have you hooked to catch any gas you may pass. 😀
Sorry Glen, but sometimes levity helps. 😉

Okay halbert-thanks. I thought as much but was not 100% With the Covid-19 virus we have all heard about
people on ventilators and my guess is it is pretty much the same. A tube is inserted into the trachea and a machine takes over. That said, the placement is most important. I know from first hand how hard it is to get a "patent" airway. I had a quick one hour CPR training at the hospital I worked at in 1983 and a pysch patient I had out for a walk choked on a piece of fried dough. I did the Heimlech and got the dough out but she had stopped breathing and had no pulse. I did my best but she had actually died on the spot of a heart attack. My point was while breathing into her mouth, I noticed her belly getting bigger and realized I was breathing into the wrong area. Anyway, the police allowed me to place her in the back of the police car and we go het to the ER right away (our hospital was two blocks away)
I felt horrible that I did such a poor job but as I said, there really was nothing I could have done.
Sadly I'd have to perform this another time but did the correct breathing but again was too late as the patient died.
I know these fine doctors know their stuff and I admire them for it and am sure they will do a good job.

Glen,
You may know this, but even in a hospital setting and with an 'emergency' (code blue) team activated, the probability of surviving a heart attack is pretty low.

Yes thanks Sr Sailor.
In the case of that women patient I had out for a walk (there was a local Mount Carmel feast going on) I thought she had just choked on the fried dough. Once I got it out she started to fall to the ground and had voided urine. Apparently she was dead at that moment but I did not know that so I tried the best I could with the little knowledge of CPR I had at the time.
I am a sensitive person and both events were somewhat traumatic to me. I had a lot of tough things to go through working at the State psych hospital but people dying were the worst part.
I did enjoy my work very much but maybe was not cut out for all the drama.
Glen
