Prostate Cancer and military veterans

9 million Veterans receive healthcare from the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).
Prostate cancer rates in the military were twice those in the general population.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer diagnosis among U.S. Veterans.
The burden of prostate cancer among Veterans is substantial with over 200,000 survivors and 12,000 new diagnoses annually.
1 in 8 American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime. For Veterans, that risk increases to 1 in 5.

I was unaware of most of this. Have we talked about this before in any other threads?

It does indeed look like a worthwhile activity for those who would like to pursue participation in it, especially since it is offering a virtual attendance option. That would be very convenient for a lot of people.

As to your question "Have we talked about this before in any other threads?" yes, we have in the past in a number of other threads discussed PCa issues affecting veterans, both from the Vietnam era and later.

I could link you to some of those earlier threads that have taken place here, but I'm concerned that those earlier threads are just old enough now that they may contain outdated information, so that you would be better served by doing contemporary websearches, if that's your wish.

But lots of responsible cancer organizations out there do regularly hold conferences, seminars, webinars, etc. on various issues, including PCa, and they are routinely helpful.

As one of the unlucky vets, it would be interesting if they could isolate the Pca cases in the Vietnam military population, the ME military population and those who never served a foreign tour of duty, to determine whether serving in foreign war zones were correlated with the higher incidence of Pca. Or better yet, if they could isolate the cases to specific military MOS to determine if it's related to military occupations. Don't know why simply serving in the military without the foreign tours of duty would show a higher-risk than the general population. Maybe it's job related.
