Friday fun: Jumanji, the board game from the movie, has been available for home play for years

Something I discovered while websurfing. Maybe it's a little oddball, but today is Friday, and it's humor and fun day around here, so what the heck.

I have to think we've all seen the movie by now, 1995's "Jumanji," where the playing of a mysterious and diabolical board game causes all kinds of fantastic jungle disasters to occur following each roll of the dice.

Well, guess what? Apparently a real-life exact duplicate of the movie board game, right down to the wooden box, and ready for use in your living room, has been available for home play for years.

Apparently you can buy it, take it home and set it up, just like in the movie, start rolling the dice, and move the little board tokens around just like the characters in the film do:

But presumably as you do so, and after reading some ominously bad poetry message that displays on the game's centerpiece each time the dice are rolled, like in the movie, a lion isn't going to come smashing through your door, or giant spiders drop down from your ceiling, and you'll just go on having fun playing the game, dice roll after dice roll.

But then again maybe, just maybe, when it's your turn and you roll the dice, you might just find yourself taking a quick peek over your shoulder, reflexive action so to speak, just to make sure a marauding monkey isn't charging your way.

Actually a clever marketing strategy when you think about it. Using the game's sinister movie reputation as the pitch for selling a take-home version of it in real life.

Probably a fun game to play for an evening's entertainment, while one is imagining (and only that) all sorts of jungle animal uproar going on everywhere around you.

Everyday, when I am waiting for my treatment there is a Joke posted on a bulletin board with a picture. This is what was posted yesterday. It went something like this.

I SHOT MY FIRST TURKEY TODAY. I CAN’T UNDERSTAND WHY THE SHOPPERS IN THE FROZEN FOOD SECTION OF THE STORE WERE SO UPSET.

The picture showed a decked out hunter with a frozen turkey under one arm and a smoking shotgun in his other hand. Made me laugh out loud. Not a good thing with a full bladder.
