I'm an active 73 yr old under Active surveillance for the past 12yrs now. My psa fluctuates from 4.5 back then to currently 8.5 ish and my prostate is a very large 90cc's., my Urologist has informed me to remain on AS which I'm happy to do so, my question is that my overnight urination pattern has changed from getting up 3-4 times to not getting up at all to urinate.
I began taking Metformin because of a elevated A1C level can this diabetes 2 medication cause a shrinking of the prostate or would the PC escaping past the capsule cause this urination change?
Kind of concerned whether metformin has created a negative change in my PC status.

I've been on metformin for many years due to a T2D condition, long before I was diagnosed with PCa in 2011. I've haven't read any research or received word from any physician that metformin has any effect on the size of one's prostate. I was on finasteride to reduce the size of my prostate for better flow. I understand that metformin allegedly has health benefits other than reducing one's blood sugar. The National Library of Medicine posted literature "Current Status and Application for Metformin for Prostate Cancer: A Comprehensive Review" (Nov/2020) from the International Journal of Molecular Science alleging that metformin may have anti-cancer effects in cancer types involving hormone-sensitive tumors, such as Pca. It's quite a lengthy study for those interested. I'm not aware of any follow-up to the study or where its gone since. Following RALP (Pt3a), I'm 7.5 years Pca free. Good luck to you.

Thank you for that information, I just found it odd that my urine urgently suddenly abated after starting metformin,
perhaps it's just a coincidence, anyways it's a good thing, keeping my fingers x'd that something negative is not happening to my PC within the prostate capsule.

I've been on metformin for years and I've also read that it has other benefits.
It's kept my A1c in check along with Victoza

I'm type two and very addicted to sweet's so thank goodness for these lifesavers
