Update....

Hey those are real good numbers to hear. It is amazing how God works. Mine PC was discovered because of a life insurance physical blood test. I had no symtoms or health issues of any kind. You will do just fine with this because you can see God in it. I don't believe in chance or coincidence. I believe everything happens for a purpose and it is Gods purpose.  A coincidence is when God decides to remain anonymous. I know the relief you feel with the knowledge of the PSA and the Gleason numbers. Keep us posted, let us know your surgery date when you find out.

Glad to hear your husband's PCa was caught so early, and that the numbers are very low. I had much the same experience with my diagnosis. My doctor gave me a general yearly physical (upon my wife's insistance); nothing really unusual but the blood test showed a PSA of 3.8 so to be cautious I went to the urologist, and the rest is history. If not for my wife's 6th sense, and insistance things might not have turned out so well.

Now it's time for pre-op exercise and Kegels because the stronger you go into surgery the faster and easier the recovery will be. Good luck, and keep posting us when you can.

It sounds like your both right on top of things.  We're so glad you were able to find the PC in it's early stages while it is curable.  Like you, I'm also an advocate now of spreading the word about early testing.  Our son is almost 20.  With both his father and his father's father having PC at fairly young ages, We've told him to start testing at age 40 at the latest.  My hope is that by then, 20 years from now, there will be cure for PC without surgery.  Maybe a vaccine?

We hope all goes well with you.  It sounds like you both are at peace and confident in what the future will bring you as well you should be.  That is half the battle!

In looking back I also feel fortunate in having my PC found early. In my case I changed doctors because I was not confident in my previous doctor. When I had turned 50 I had to ask her to run a PSA in order to know my baseline. I changed to an internist at the first of the year and he ran lots of test including a PSA. While the PSA was not high at 3.2 it had changed from the baseline of 2.8. He sent me to a urologist who did a DRE and could not feel anything. The urologist had the PSA checked again in 3 months and it had gone up to 4.3. From there it was a biopsy and now Da Vinci scheduled for November 1st. While I do not like where I am at now I think back to my 40's when I did not have a PSA check done and can just imagine the trouble I could have been in back then. I do not have any sons but I have encouraged freinds that have sons to make sure that they get their PSA checked no later then when they are 40.

It is hard to feel blessed when you have PC but when I consider the stage that I could be at I do thank God.

Sara Sounds like you are going through the same things we went through.  My husband was diagnosed a little over a month ago and he is 42.  We go to a very detailed MD that checks out everything.  My husband had an abnormal DRE 5 years ago when the doctor found a nodule.  He sent him on to a Urologist which did a biopsy.  It came back clean.  We have physicals every year.  This year (5 years later) his PSA went from 2.2 to 2.6 and our doctor recommended him go back to the Urologist for another biopsy.  He had another and found cancer and with a Gleason of 3+4=7.  We were in TOTAL shock.  He then had the bone scan and CT scans.  They came back clear.  The Urologist that performed the biopsy only performs the retropubic and we had high recommendations of another Urologist that specializes in the perineal prostatecomy.  We ended up going the perineal way and it was done two days ago.  We came home yesterday and my husband is doing really well.  The path report was called to us yesterday (fast, huh) and his Gleason was changed to a 6 and it was all confined to the prostate.  What a great relief.  I don't see many people that have the perineal performed on here but it sure worked for us.  Hope everything comes out well for you and yours.  It is so hard to go through, especially when they are younger than a lot of people are.  You don't expect it in your early 40's.  I'm just glad we caught it.  We looked at a lot of options.  We opted for surgery since you can always go back to do other treatments which if you do radiation, seeds, etc., you can't go back to surgery.  In his surgery, the doctor was able to save the nerves.  That's great news too.  He will get his catheter out this coming Monday.  We'll see how that goes but we know this will all take time.  It's helpful when you know others are facing the same things you are.
