ED 5 years post-prostatectomy

I just found this site tonight.  What a relief that others are out there talking about their experiences.  Thanks, you guys.

I have a question, not for me but for a friend (No, REALLY!)  He had what was supposed to be a nerve sparing radical protatectomy 5 years ago.  Unbeknownst to my friend, his doctor took off on vacation right after, so he didn't get good follow up care for some time.  He got another doctor several weeks later, but didn't know what to expect or not.  At the time, he was mostly concerned with the incontinence and painful testicular swelling, but as time passed, discovered he has no erections. 

At 5 years post,  he's tried Viagra, Levitra, & Cealis ... all give him headaches so he has trouble taking for any longer than a few days, none has given erections.  He's tried MUSE w/ very little result.  

Has anyone else experienced similar but found a solution, or have any hope they can offer?  He's considering an implant, but frankly, they're a uncertain about them with possibilities of malfunctions & mutilations.  Anyone know of any positive experiences, good clinics or good doctors?  He doesn't seem to get very far with his local urologist and there are not many to choose from in our community.  He's considering traveling if it offers a chance.

In my opinion, and I agree with kw, your friend should get another opinion. You didn't mention if your friend had tried the injections yet, because these can induce an erection, when the pills and the MUSE can't.

Shortly after my surgery, my wife and I were invited to a conference by my urologist's department, which kind of turned out to be a marketing presentation for surgical interventions for erectile dysfunction and incontinence. Nevertheless, it was a chance to hear some information and ask questions about the procedures. A doctor presented about the penile implant, and the one they talked about was that made by American Medical Systems (http://www.americanmedicalsystems.com/mens_health.html). The doctor said that there was a low rate of problems with it, and a local businessman who was the recipient of the implant, and his wife, gave a testimonial about their satisfaction with it. The decision to have one is kind of final, because they use the spaces of the natural erectile tissues to put the thing in. That website gives the names and locations of doctors who provide this intervention, and you might find somebody close to you. Chances are those doctors may have ideas, just short of doing the implantations, to help.

There are other options...tri-mix is an option, but there is a way to have intercourse even when the penis will not become erect. a soft foam sleeve can be placed over the penis to hold it erect, and some of them come with an area to stimulate the ***oris as a bonus. Plus, it is cheap--$12.95.
