PSA down on Avodart ... good news i think??

So, Ken has been Avodart for a little over three months now,  and we requested another PSA done since our surgery has been pushed off farther than expected.  Got results today.

HIs PSA is currenty 2.4 down from 3.7 (that was from about 4 months ago).  from our web research, that PSA needs to be multiplied by 1.6 at three months (to compensate for 40% reduction in PSA while on Avodart after 3 months), which makes it actually about 3.8.  Also original urologist called tonight (from home, which was GREAT, considering other problems we have had) and he said everything looked like not progressing and results were about constant.  so cheered by that.

I think this is good news on PSA?  But has anyone on avodart after cancer diagnosis had a different experience?

yeah, i always notice the commericials now. Our urologist (not the surgeon, but the original diagnosing urologist) is doing a study on it in cancer patients for slowing of prostate cancer growth. We didn't want to join the study (was double-blind), but just asked, can we get a prescription even if not in the study, and can it hurt anything? He basicall said, no, it will make your PSA go down artificially so will have to multiply it (which we have), and that the prostate will shrink, but in our case Ken's prostate was 73 gms so he said it wouldn't be a bad thing to shrink for surgery. our davinci surgeon agreed that it is better to have a normal rather than enlarged prostate.

not sure what "germs" you are referencing, neither he nor I have been sick? (i think you may be thinking about kziz (courtney) and her hubby's bout with ecoli? ... someone got us confused on chat too). But anyway, healthy here :) although getting snow once AGAIN ... but mexico in one week :)

we are going to cozumel too!

i haven't been there, only puerto vallarta and cabo so far.

We are staying at the cozumel palace.

Planned first day just settle in, book our tours at hotel, dinner, hang out, sex :) and sleep.

Going diving second day. (me a resort course in the morning. Ken is already certified, so he is doing a deep dive that morning, and then we meet up for a "shallow" baby dive together in the afternoon at Paradise Reef after i finish my resort scuba course). Then nap, Dinner, hang out, sex :)

Third day doing snorkling with dolphins at chakanaab Nt'l park in morning. Then pool, dinner, sex :) (not necessarily in that order ;)

Fourth day planning to go over to mainland and doing Tulum Mayan ruins and the beach there. I think we get back late, so maybe just dinner, no sex (:

Fifth day, open, maybe snorkel/scuba off shore? or do more town, or go to east side for beaches. or sex. who knows :)

Hey ~ Tanya & Ken,   Whew…. Where has the time gone?   I’m thinking you are on your trip as I’m thinking of you…..   Threads keep coming and then the next thing I know they are on page 2 and 3….     I really enjoyed your post and hope every “detail” was accomplished… hee hee…. Will definitely love to hear back about your “side’” trips…     I think it’s wonderful that the two of you just got away for a little “together” time… Was this trip planned before diagnosis or after?   Interested in knowing.     I hope it was a dream come true for both of you ~ to just get away and decompress from all the “pressures”……   and be fresh when you come back to again move forward in your fight! Thank you so much for allowing us to walk beside you on this journey…   How did you rate the Cozumel Palace? Did you enjoy the ruins?   We sure did…. Really took us back in time? How was Ken’s scuba dive??   WOW ~ this would be awesome for sure…..      How was the snorkeling with the dolphins at Chakanaab Nat’l Park?      In our booklet…. It has several… Dolphin Encouter, Dolphin Interactive Program, Dolphin Swim & Snorkel Adventure, Dolphin Swim Experience.   Would be interested in knowing which one you went on!!   Cozumel: We’ve signed up for the Segway Adventure & Snorkel.   We even bought our own snorkel/mask/fins…. Hi Tanya, Thank you for sharing your trip.... I am thrilled you had a wonderful time!!!  Ahhhhh I'll check out the palace for future.... trips.  We looked at the excursions today online and will signup this week for the ones we want.
