TAMU - question re injections for ED

Hi Tamu!

We've followed your thread for quite awhile now and at this stage of our recovery are especially interested in any further information regarding the use of injections. (Sorry your experience was so painful)

Bob has an appointment and a prescription for Trimix on March 28th.  We are curious?

What exactly takes place in the doctor's office in learning the use of the shots?

Is this a place for the wife to accompany the husband?

Do you only have the one visit?

Linda & Bob,

My wife did not go with me for this appoitment simply because she was working and we did not see the need for her to be there.  In hindsight I wish she had been there as she could have driven home while I was in a lot of discomfort.  I only had an appoitment with the PA of my urologist.  We discussed the injection and he explained that he preferred to start with Caverjet as it had a lot better complication history for priapism and Peyronies.  I had already done my research and I knew that Caverjet had a side effect of penile aching.  I do not believe that you would mind being in the room when the injection is given.  The PA just came in and said for me to drop him and he grab the end of my penis pushed it to the side and injected the medication.  The one thing that may bother Bob is that you have to look at the injection being made so you know how and where to give it.  I have to say that watching the needle go in was a little weird but when there was very little pain it was a relief.  The PA then went out ands said that he would be back in 15 minutes.  During this time I did get an erection but along with it came some pain at the top of my penis and along it.  When the PA came back in he checked the erection and said it was baout 70% and recommended that I go up on the dose the next time to a level he gave me but I cannot remember now.  He actually came back in about 10 minutes instead of 15.  I left right after that and could tell that the erection was still getting harder.  By the time I got 10 miles down the road it was hurting but not unbearable.  It stayed that way for the next two hours and only began to go down after that.  The aching continued for two to three weeks afterwards getting a little better each week.  I have since received the Bimix solution but have not gotten the nerve up yet to try it.  I have read where many men use the Trimix effectively with little or no aching.  Please keep me informed on how it works.  Maybe in a week or two I will try the Bimix.

I'm new to this site and wish I had found it a year ago when my husband was diagnosed. Wonderful info here and the folks are so understanding and helpful.

about the injections, please DO accompany your husband to the appt. The experience was much like that described by TAMU. The urologist came in and showed me exactly where to inject (my husband will not inject himself) and this is vital. Injecting in the wrong place will bring no results at all....we learned. We were advised to start at a certain dosage and increase (if needed) ever so slowly each use until the perfect dosage was found for him that brought good results as well.

Well, the initial dosage wasn't effective much so next time we increased the dosage. Still no results. Increased a slight bit and this time it worked. Oh, brother, did it ever work! WOW! However, the dosage was apparently too high because his penis grew and kept on growing for a couple of hours after the injection. I gotta tell you, the sex was awesome but afterwards he was in so much pain that we felt guilty for enjoying it so much.

The moral is that the shots DO work for us anyway, but the dosage is very important as well as injecting into the correct spot. Since that incident, we have decreased the dosage and all is well. We use the shots a couple times a week. Other times we use the Cialis and the pump combo which works great for us. As you can probably tell, we have a very active sex life (daily) and finding a solution to the ED was our goal along with getting him well. He had his surgery May '06 and still hasn't had an erection on his own which he finds extremely disappointing as nerves were spared with the robotic surgery. I'm not complaining however. I'm a happy camper and having him with me is the best part of it all.

I would not have wanted my wife at the appt.  The doc explained the procedure and then asked if I wanted to try it.  I told him to go ahead.  I didn't mind driving home with a boner.
