Yesterday (2/15/07) after talking to the surgeon's nurse about some stinging, she wanted me to come in for a bladder scan to make sure I was emptying ok (scan revealed I was). I have not been able to "pee on purpose" at all since my surgery a month ago (open prostatectomy), and she wanted a urin sample. I explained I probably could not furnish it because every time I stand from my seated position, I gush and it all out and cannot control it... well I had a little success of holding it one week ago, but not since then. Of course I sat in the waiting room and the moment my name was called I stood and, gush, gush, gush. When I do that, I have this awful urge to squeeze my legs together when I walk..I can only hope, after thinking about it, that I didn't do that in front of everyone in the waiting room. Oh well, it's too late to worry about it now.
After the scan I heard the nurse tell the surgeon I was in the room if he wanted to see me. To my surprise, he did. He asked if I was dong the Kegals (yes). I asked him about my continuing incontinence and he said "It's only been a month. You must be patient." "Yes, yes, I know."
He then mentioned "Collagen implant", which I had no idea what he meant and told him so. He explained it, set me up with the nurse for the skin test (had it) and said if I was not improved by June 6 (my 3 month appointment to check psa), and if the skin test was ok, we would talk more about a "collagen implant". Of course I am interested, but...
...The literature he gave me has caused some concern. For one, the literature says one has to be incontinent for one year before he receives the implant. Another is that it may take 4 or five of these treatments. Of course there were other concerns too. I searced this forum but came up with nothing so...
(1) Have any of you received this treatment? What can you share with me about it...the "pros" and/or "cons".
(2) In addition to the Kegals, is there anything to do about that awful gushing when I stand up? A little leaking I can live with I think. But the flooding is another thing.
Thanks for any comments.
