Hi all, as it gets closer to my biopsy, (2nd July) and the follow up report (12 July) I find myself putting things off until I know what's going on with the old prostate, not feeling scared as such, but not wanting to make any moves or decisions until I know one way or the other...anyone else felt like me?

Mal. Psa 5.7 no symptoms

Hello Mal,

It sounds like you're as normal as the rest of us. 

I tried not to let those events paralyze me, but of course common sense dictates what things need to be placed on hold. I stopped watching the Washington Redskins play (too depressing).

I wish you good luck on your up coming test; please keep us informed.

Actually as nervous as I was I continued to do things I enjoyed. Sure it was in the back of my mind but I went to my son's baseball games and my daughters soccer games, surfing and yard work. I hate to use this analogy, but it's like after 9/11 and knowing that something bad was out there and was I going to sit back and wait for that something to happen, hell no I went on my way doing things I wanted and needed to do. I'm doing the same with my upcoming surgery - I have a great vacation planned 2 weeks before my robotic surgery and I am going to be around people I love and care about. I've seen PCa beat my father and it will not beat me.

Your reaction/feelings are normal.

I was a nervous wreck but did all my studying about the disease before I got the biopsy results. I was therefore prepared to make a well informed decision when the surgeon gave me the results.

Maldugs; Sounds normal to me too. Before planning anything such as a business decision, vacation, investment etc. I wanted to get completely through the surgery and know where I stood. Then I was able to move on.
My next Psa test is in August and I'm finding myself putting things off again. Just a natural human reaction I guess -- taking stock and trying to be prepared for whatever.

Hi maldugs. Don't worry about the biopsy. It is more of an inconvience than anything else. I will not last long and you will be over it. Try not to think about it until your Dr. calls you. Pray that it will be good news. If not, there are a lot of ways to deal with it. Keep you head up and the people on this forum will be here to support you.

I had my biopsy on 6-June. The weekend before I happen to be talking to my mom. She was mentioning that where she lived there was a free prostate screening that she insisted my younger brother go to. Then she mentions that all four of her brothers had prostate cancer. As far as I could remember this is the first time I have heard this bit of family history.

So I have the biopsy and prepare myself that the news is not going to be good, and of course it is not.

I hope your biopsy turns out to be good news for you.

In my case I was not that nervous prior to the biopsy and my urologist at the time sort of discounted it some by saying that he has a lot of false positives from his biopsies. I was concerned some about the pain associated with the biopsy but that turned out not to be that bad. My family history had no prostate cancer in it so I was feeling that it would turn out negative. Of course, getting the results knocked me off my feet but I recovered fairly quickly and took control of the treatment decision process.
