Hi...thanks for all the compassion you've given me.  Since my husband's diagnosis, I've realized the great amount of resilience that my family can have.  Our three daughters (aged 25, 24,11) are wonderful and have been courageous.  My own anxiety has lessened and Ive stayed positive and when October comes, we will all be ready for the PSA count. Thank you again for this thread; it would be very useful in the months to come.

      Hi ~ Dinazad, It truly warmed our hearts when we saw your posting...  If you wish to use this thread ~ by all means feel free to do so.  If the time ever comes and you'd like to start your own ~ don’t hesitate!!     We are here for you ~ if the time comes and you start getting anxious..   step back here and pull from all of us. This forum is POWERFUL in the ways of Positive Thinking, Comfort, and Understanding… (Good, Bad, & Scary)… We share it all.   So ~ feel free to touch base.   We definitely will expect a posting come October’s PSA…. We're hoping for great test results in October!

It's great to see that your husband is "moving on" and getting to normalcy.

It sounds like he's in the hands of good doctors that will monitor his progress carefully.

Don't feel bashful about expressing any feelings you have. That's why these great people are part of this forum... to listen to you and to support you.

Hi IdahoSurvivor,

Thank you for welcoming me.  I come from a small country where prostate cancer is so rare that we had to go to a neighbouring country for the Da Vinci ops.  The doctors who treated my husband were exemplary. 

Since becoming a member of this site, I've found real people with the same struggle - to understand this cancer that afflicts a lot of fathers and husbands. I have read a lot of the postings and something got rubbed on me - all of your optimism.

I pray for you and all the others who have been visited by cancer the same times I pray for a longer life for my husband.

I'm so glad you found good health care for your husband!

 

Keep up the positive outlook.  That is the only way to go!  Several in this forum are beating tremendous odds and doing well.  For those that are struggling, this forum offers caring and support.

 

Our moderator, bluebird, had a good suggestion if you feel so inclined.  Please start a new thread so we can know more about your husband’s history.  You don’t have to share anything you don’t want to.  We’d like to know his original PSA, biopsy results such as Gleason score and staging, and the final pathology report.  It helps us all compare notes and make more appropriate comments.  You can put this in your signature via the “control panel” if you don’t want to type it each time.

Hi Dinazad,
Your husbands numbers and mine are very similar. I have been through many types of treatments and continue to feel well. I am perhaps in the best athletic shape in ten years as I walk a few miles every day and have changed my diet. I was a tick under stage IV and had 4 positive margins in my post-op pathology. After surgery, hormone treatments, and radiation, all since February 16, and I feel few side effects. I attribute this to age, excersice, and the most key componant you can have in this battle - a positive attitude. But to continue to be in remission I had to also spend much time educating myself in depth about my cancer and its stage. At any time you have a question my EM link is enabled. I frequently get EM from our friends here and there is no question that can't be asked. It sounds like your husband doesn't have time for this disease and that's a good thing in many ways. It shows his desire to move on and live his normal life. That's a positive attitude. You both will need to learn as much as possible. And those things you read about chance of recurrance or relapse don't apply to everybody and don't say the best ways to avoid these things. A good treatment plan, a good diet, and a good ol dose of family and friends can help alot.

Hi All,

It's good evening from here.  My husband did not have a bone scan but had an MRI which showed an intact capsule and no lesions on pelvic bones.  We did ask the Professor why there would be no bone scan.  He said it was not necessary as the PSA did not warrant it.  When we told our doctor in our home country he said the Professor was talking from experience.  So, it did ease our minds somehow. 

I initially said his operation was done in May. Sorry, I had lapses in memory because just before the ops, we held our second daughter's wedding.  It was a lot of pressure for me then.  Below is my husband's histology report.  His incontinence is almost history by now.  He is on sildenafil twice a week.  We get to laugh once in a while though about all the side effects.
