I have severe low back pain pain in both hips and into the groin. My MRI does show bulging discs, spinal stenosis and facet hypertrophy. However, one surgeon feels that I should get a bone scan because of the level of pain I'm experiencing.

I have had burning with ejaculation, chills, all-over feeling of pain.

Can this be prostate cancer metastisized?

Hey Alan,

Go back to your doc and ask for a PSA test. Its a simple blood test and will indicate prostate cancer if you have it. PCa has no physical symptoms in its early stages.

That is true but my feeling is that I might have had this for some time. I have some major lumbar problems that seemed to be causing my pain, but one Surgeon felt that the pain was coming from something else like cancer.

Hi Alan,
Not likely. That "doctor" should have not speculated. There are difinitive ways of determining cancer. Especially prostate cancer. First a PSA test with a DRE. Then a biopsy. In 95% of the cases it is confirmed or not. In 100% of advanced prostate disease is confirmed. You have to force this question to your doctor. I responded you elsewhere. Tell us more about your age and family history with PCa and anything else that makes you think you have this disease.

Hi Alan,

I just wanted to add that you should get the free psa blood test done as well as the psa. Your symptoms may not at all be related to PCa. Keep us posted.

Hello Alan,

Don't delay any longer. Go to your Urologist asap, and get those tests. Worrying does not help cure those pains. I hope it is nothing serious; then you can spend your time more productively planning an "End of Summer BBQ".

Actually, what I failed to mention is that my Dad passed from Prostate Cancer and my sister is a breast cancer survivor.

My concern is that the back pain is so severe that it is bone cancer metasisized (sic) from another location. I also have severe leg weakness and no left leg reflex.

Hi wolftrades,

 

All of us are hoping there is another explanation for your pain.  Having two in my family with back problems, they have had pains similar to your with pinched nerves.

 

Like others have said, an inexpensive PSA test and perhaps a follow-up DRE is in order to start answering some questions.

Hi Alan, having experienced 2 laminectomies, and a triple L4 L5 S1 fusion of the spine, and can say that if you have bulging discs they are most certainly impinging on the nerves including sciatic, this pain is terrible, probably the worst around, the pain sometimes refers to the pelvic area too.

If you have any doubts, by all means have both the bone scan, PSA, and DRE, but I feel you are heading for a bit of work on your back also, if you have the tests, at least you can eliminate the fears of other things affecting you.
