Question: Post surgery blood in urine

Asking this question for my dad...he is going to read through his information to see if he can answer it and I suggested he call the surgeon as well, and I told him I would ask you all.

He is 1 week post catheter removal and about 2.5 weeks post surgery.

He said today he noticed a couple drops of blood on his pad and after urinating, and perhaps a little yesterday.

Suggestions?

Hi mochapj: Some blood, tiny clots and scabs can be expected so soon after surgery and cath. removal.
I wound up with a bout of passing big clots and heavy bleeding at four weeks post-op, which I was told was "somewhat unusual, but not uncommon." I'm sure your dad is fine -- BUT -- you should probably call your surgeon, if only for reassurance. He or she may even want to see the urine to determine how much blood is in it.

Blood in the urine is a normal occurrence for some time after prostate surgery......just not huge amounts or large clots. Tell your dad not to worry about it....normal happening...jwb

My dad just had his catheter removed yesterday and the nurse at the appointment said that sometimes if you do too much (lifting, etc) there might be some blood in the urine.  She said that is why they don't want them to be lifting more than 5lbs (we were told ten originally, but yesterday the nurse said five) for 6 weeks following surgery.  Obviously, I am not a doctor and there could be a number of reasons.  Good luck!

Hi. I had some blood in my urine a couple of weeks after the cath came out. I knew that too much walking is what did it for me. If you are concerned please call your Dr.
