cancer treatment centers

I went to City of Hope for my surgery. My goal was to find the most experienced surgeon possible that would take my case. I found six or seven that would and then decided on what location would be best for me living in Las Vegas. I grew up in Orange County and had plenty of friends and family there. I narrowed it between USC, UCLA, and CoH which all had extensive experience in daVinci surgeries. When Dr. Wilson accepted my case that sealed where I was going. He is reknowned and regarded as a top surgeon. There have been 3000 LRP's at CoH just in the last six years. Dr. W. is the director of the prostate cancer program at Coh. I was very lucky he had the time to add me to his case load. He is commonly unreachable because he is in the OR so much. When calling and requesting his services he will call back as he returns all calls. It just may be at 8:30 at night when he does. Another doctor there is also internationally regarded is Dr. Kawachi. You will recieve the best care there possible. They are incredible caring people and the facility is perhaps the best cancer center around, certainly in southern California. As stated I live in Las Vegas. This town has grown fast but you just can't grow experience that fast. There are no highly experienced daVinci surgeons here. Since my insurance covered it, I went out of state but to an area where I could stay with family, a top center, and a top surgeon at that center, it was an easy decision. One recommendation, you should visit at least one major center before you decide what you will do. Major centers have extensive experience if not only for the volume of patients they see. They are the best place for that second opinion, and they have the best results.

GreenAcres is right.  I went out to the Cance treatment center of America in May just to get a freash pair of eyes on my cancer.  There was a question of possible bone involvement brought up by my GP after he read the bone scan report. The CTCA is primarly a radiation treatment of PC, recommending HDR brackatherpy, hormone, and radiation as a triple attack on the cancer.  If you are concidering radiation treatment they have the latest equipment, no proton yet.

I was given the green light by the radiolgist to "get surgery", he was very objective, and well trained. The nice thing about being in such a hospitial is that you get a test one hour, and a few hours later you usually have the results.  As many of us can attest to, waithing for the test results is very stressful.

They pick up the plane fare, and you can eat at the hospital cafitera for free, so the only expense is the hotel, they also offer a shuttle from the hotel to hospital.  I went to Zion, Il.
