Thank you so much for the warm welcome :-) I would if I may like to ask some questions. What are some of the things I should purchase pre surgery? Some one suggested that I purchase a jock strap for the catheter. Also I purchased a mattress pad for incontience. Am I jumping the gun here on these items? What about gas relief meds and stool softner? Should I be better safe and prepared than sorry I didn't purchase them? Some of the things the surgeon suggested was that he begin veggies and light foods a couple of days before the surgery? Am I being over protected here?

Hey ~ Really glad to see you posting and to see your new personal thread Recently diagnosed and scheduled for surgery   You are definitely not jumping the gun.  Get as much done before hand!!  We all have different experiences so ~ hopefully as time permits you will have time to follow the links in your Welcome Letter and it will guide you to a lot of really good information.     Yes ~ stool softeners, light foods before surgery, bladder spasm meds… etc.   As time permits… “Our Journey” will give you a view of our experience and hopefully you can pull something from us to help you in your journey.   Also ~ checking out the links will guide you to other journeys and lots more information…   Take each day and know you are moving forward and we are all right here to help shore up any wobbly stepping-stones.   Just keep reaching out!!!! Hi Truly Blessed,

Being prepared is a good idea. I don't think a jock strap will help at all with the catheter. You won't want anything pressing/touching/pulling on that tube.

Thanks bluebird for the helpful links. Thanks to all that replied. I kinda new at forums and such and am so grateful that my surgeon stuck this info in my packet when we left his office. Nov 7th can't come soon enough ut as the saying goes "One day at a time" That's all I ask of him.

I found this forum the same way, through an info packet that my urologist gave us when I was diagnosed.

Hi and welcome to the spot no one wants to be a member of. Now that you are here the best thing is stay positive and get info and more info. Stool softeners are a must if you are going the surgery route. You can buy the 25 size of Ducalax liquid gels for around $9 or the generic for $4.50. I recommend you go to a drug store and get the sponge rubber donut for the trip home. I got one for $9.89 with removable washable cover. I took it with me on a 3000 mile coach tour and and it was very comfortable. I first bought a rubber inflatable one but it was not very comfortable at any inflation amount. The hospital gave me velcro straps for taking care of the small bag. I suggest you go to the place I first came on and read some of the things that I encountered as I got ready for the surgery and even after. In all my journey has not been too harsh and not nearly as rocky as some. My first trip here is under prostate cancer surgery and signed as usual Uncle Dan.
