Hi Everyone!!

I hope you are all well.

We saw Rick's urologist/Surgeron Yesterday and he was concerned that Rick's PSA's are slowly creeping up. He said that it is still reasonable to just keep an eye on the PSA every 3 months (After Rick said he wasen't ready to do anything). Both Rick's Primary care Dr. and the urologist are Very concerned about his anemia they want him to see a hemotologist. His blood work came in low last month and when re-tested this month it was even lower. They are concerned that his bone marrow is not producing red blood cells. I wonder if this has anything to do with the cancer? His testosterone level is 2.2 is this normal? We have an appointment with his heart Dr. in the morning. Rick wants to see if he can stop the heart meds. I plan to ask if it would be safe for Rick to get hormone therapy with his heart condition.

Rick's PSA isn't through the roof by any stretch and thus bone mets are probably not the cause of the anemia. With the "I am not a doctor" disclaimer included, I understand that adenocarcinoma's when they metastisize to bone tissue they attach themselves to the outside part of the bone and not the marrow. The kidneys however can affect the production of red cells and the kidneys can be weakened by pain meds and heart meds. So with the PSA where it is, I would bet that prostate cancer is not the likely cause of the anemia. Let us know what the doctors find out. Stay positive and I wish you a great holiday season.

I'm no expert on the anemia nor the low T count - there are others here who might help with that. The PSA rise is small and it sounds like the doc is keeping a good eye on things.

But I am bumping this up just in case someone else besides Tony can add anything...
