Hi All, ulcerative colitis for over 1 year however I might be misdiagnosed. Searching through net when hubby realized my symptoms were pretty similar to Celiac Disease. I have had chronic cramps, pale, abdominal pain, bloating, joint pains, nausea, vomiting, severe diarrhea, broken sleep and severe bleeding. I am still awaiting results from doctor. Just got colonoscopy done last month and he thought I was misdiagnosed with UC I have been in terrible pain since last week and cant get med's untill results come back??..I didn't come across bleeding on the web pages.. Is this to a symptom of Celiac Disease?? I'm so confused??

I don't know that bleeding is a symptom of CD. Celiac biopsies are done in the duodenum which is upper GI track not in the colon as in colonoscopy. The villi in the intestinal tract that absorb nutrients from the food you eat flatten out with celiac disease so many are anemic and malnourished. My husband actually had a gray color to his skin and his hemoglobin was way low which is why an endoscopy was done to check the villi and for other symptoms. He has never taken medicine for CD just changed his diet to include no gluten. You can find all kinds of info and gluten free foods and recipes online. You can try this on your own, but if you are having a biopsy done don't change your diet first or the reading will be false. Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having so much pain.

I'm not sure why it would take so long to get results of a colonoscopy, I'm guessing biopsies, since the physician can give immediate results to the colonoscopy.

I didn't have problems with bleeding, but was treated for anemia for several years with testing done on just about everything trying to find the source of my loss of hemoglobin. 

You could try a gluten-free diet, but I would caution you to maybe wait until you speak to your doctor.  If they decide to test you specifically for celiac disease, as was stated that's not seen on colonoscopy, you'd have to have an endoscopy.  Either way, you have to be consuming gluten when you're tested.
