Hi i'm new here and i'm hoping someone can help me.

Over the past 9 years i've suffered with bad abdomen pain, toilet trouble, mood swings just to name a few. My old doctor was useless, saying it's just a bug or it's IBS. I've just changed my doctor a few months ago and she is great. She has done blood test after blood test just to get to the bottom of this. One of my blood tests have come back positive for celiac disease. I'm seeing a specialist this afternoon, also booked in for an endoscopy on the 31/3/10. I'm so scared about having this done, I have a fear of hospitals at the best of times. Can anyone please tell me can I be put right out like any other operation, or do I have to be awake? 

I'm a diabetic as well and this worry is really messing up my sugar levels, as well as making the abdomen pains worse.   

Please can anyone help me on this? I'm going mad!

First of all, welcome to the forum. Glad you found us!

Are you having an EGD? If so, they will give you a spray to numb your throat. Then they give you a sedative before the procedure. I don't remember any of the procedure after that. They need you to be semi-conscious to be able to respond to directions from the doctor.

It was one of the easiest procedures I've gone through. I hope this eases your mind a little and can allow you to get your sugar levels back in balance.

Thanks for that it has helped and started to eased my mind :-) . 

Also while I'm am on here can anyone know the best way to changed my specialist? I saw him yesterday for the frist time and I can say with my hand on my heart that he was the worse Dr/specialist i have ever met. He was confussing things that didn't need confussing. One minute he was saying he had no blood results for me and that my GP was ment to send them to him, the next he was talking about the blood results he has been given by my GP. One minute he would be saying that blood test can't be trusted, the next he was saying that if my coeliac test came back positive then I have coeliac disease. If this is the fact then why do we have to have the endoscopy test? Then he sent me for more blood tests. I was more confussed and stressed when I came out then when I went in. He really wasn't listening to anything I was saying. I really don't know what to do on this one, as I really don't feel at ease when in room with him, and really don't want him treating me confused .  Any Help and advise would be greatly weclome at this time

The "gold standard" diagnosis is a positive blood test along with a positive scope showing damage to the villi in the small intestine. There are a couple of blood tests for Celiac along with a genetic test for the markers for the disease.

I would go back to your GP and have him refer you to another specialist. Just be honest with him and let him know you aren't comfortable with his first recommendation.

Thanks for the advise I will do that. Will i be able to see another specialist at my local hospital or will I have to go to a different hospital?        Thanks for your help.

What country do you reside in? I'm in the US, so my advice will only go so far. I'm only superficially familiar with a few other countries' health care systems. There are quite a few other nationalities represented on HealingWell so you may hear from some others once we know the specific country you are referring to.

Hi everyone,

I am really hoping someone can help me out here!

On top of everything I put in my first post here, last nite I came out in a lumpy rash on one of my legs and my arms. It is like Skin colour lumps with redness around it and very very itichy and sore. Then today I have started getting small patches of bruising around some of them. Has anyone got any idea what this could be and could it be conneted to any of my other medical problems? I really feel like my health is going down hill at the moment, and all I really want is to feel well enough again to return to work. I sat for nearly an hour this morning crying coz I felt so fed up with it all  cry

Any ideas, no matter how small would be greatly recieved
