What could this rash be?

Hi everyone.

If you read my last post, you will know that I'm undergoing test for coeliac (celiac) disease. I was really hoping that someone could give me some advise please.

about 2 days ago I came out in a really itchy rash, and was wondering if anyone would have any idea what it could be.

It's like skin coloured lumps with red sore patches around it. It's very itchy, sore and at times I get like a sharp pain where the lumps are. They vary in size and some have brusing around or near them. I feel really itchy all over my body, but they are mainly on my right leg, although I have a few on my arms. Last night my daughter said that I had a small one come up on my neck.

Although they are really itchy all the time they are worse when in the shower/bath and the warm water is on them.

Could this rash have anything to do with my other medical condictions or is it likely to be something different?

I have underactive throids, i'm type 2 diabetic, on and off spells of depression and now, being tested as I mentioned at the beggining of this post, for coeliac disease.  I am going to see my dr on monday, but just wanted to try and get some ideas first.

Any advise/ideas would be great

Lee, a rash can be anything from sensitivity to a laundry product to an allergy to an infection, or symptom of a more systemic disease. We are not doctors, merely others living with the health conditions covered by these boards, so we can't try to hazard a guess as to your diagnosis. If the rash is still bothering you on Monday, talk to your doctor about it.

OK thanks, just thought I would ask incase anyone had ever had a rash like it, just to give me ideas what it could be. I'm going to the dr on monday anyway.

Hi Lee,

There is a rash that goes along with celiac disease for some people; it's called dermatitis herpetiformis (aka DH for short). You might want to Google it and look at pictures to see if it looks anything like your rash. Generally it's in the form of blisters and it's SUPER itchy.

Best to see a dermatologist ASAP! But if they biopsy your skin for DH, they must biopsy NEXT TO the blister or lesion, not right on top of it, or they will get a false negative. Hopefully your dermatologist will know this, but not all of them do, unfortunately. Probably because DH is fairly rare.

Thanks for the information, I'm really greatful.

I've looked on the internet and it looks similar, but some look a little different. I'm going to see my Dr tomorrow, so I will ask her about it.

Hi Guys,

I went to the Dr this morning and she thinks it could be an infection, so she has given me a weeks worth of antibiotics and some cream to help with the itchy side of it.
