Hi all. I was just thinking we could all get together and share some of our favorite gluten free recipes and ideas. My older sister was diagnosed with Celiac when she was four. I am 23 and have just been diagnosed. I feel like it's not as difficult of a struggle due to the fact that I have grown up around a gluten free diet. My two favorite treats that I find most difficult to give up however are breaded chicken, and beer!
The breaded chicken was easy to replace. I just throw chicken strips into some egg batter, and roll them in ground up rice krispies or corn flakes. Cook them in a pan with some olive oil and your set!
As far as beer goes. The liquor stores tell me to drink wine, which I am not a huge fan of, or they offer me ciders, Gross!
I was about to give up the fight until an old friend of mine told me about brewing his own beer. After researching, it turns out that you can brew your own gluten free beer! Many brew stores are aware of celiac, and the struggles involved with yeast and grains but I also ran into a brew store whose owner actually suffers from celiac too. They have all kinds of different recipes, one of a kind malts, and most importantly knowledge about gluten free brewing. Plus I have a sweet new hobby.
The guys name is Len, and their website is
www.thehomebrewconnection.com. They have a bunch of gluten free brew recipes on their site, but you might have to call them and let them know you want a gluten free beer kit. I guess they can hook you up with a wine making kit too (I'm just not a big wine drinker).
Lets get sharing. I realize these might not be the two healthiest ideas, but hey, I've got a life to live.
