hi, I have just recently been to an endocrine dr. after my pa ran some tests and thought i had a thyroid problem.  I went to the specialist and he ran some test and looked at all my films and said that it is not thyroid.  I got my letter in the mail today and it says that my sed rate is 51 which is quite high and indicates that i have a serious physical condition present.   When i researched sed rate I get alot of thyroid and inflamitory stuff..  I was just hoping that someone may be able to shed some light on what is going on with me..  what im looking at posiably.  they tested me for lupus and diabeties and that was all good.  the only other thing that i know is that my d-pannel came back low.  and on my thyroid ultrasound i had some leisions and calcium buildup. but the dr said that was not uncommon..  Any sugestions or thoughts would be great..  Thanks and God bless

Did they check you for anemia?
My mother's sed rate is high and she has anemia.
The sed rate tells the doctor something is going on in your body causing inflamation.

I looked up the calcium and lesision build up and found this article:

Overstimulation of the thyroid gland can create too much calcium and phosphates in the blood as well. Ingestion of too much Vitamin D may be a causal factor. Also, diseases that destroy bone tissue, like Pagets Disease or various bone cancers can cause metastatic calcinosis.

Treatment is difficult in many of these cases. Underlying causes for an excess of calcium or phosphate may be addressed. Some doctors address the presence of too much calcium by administering antacids like aluminum carbonate, which can remove some of the calcium in the intestines. Others use calcium blockers like warfarin, but this medication requires intense follow-up to rule out excessive bleeding.

well,  its more than i knew before...  I dont know that i love the idea of "to many problems to name!" yeah

but I already knew that there was a wide spand of stuff i was looking so i am just open to any thing at this point to help me be prepared..

I have sleep apnea, slightly enlarged heart, glaucoma, gerd, asthma, OA in my back, hypothyroidism, pre-diabetes, multiple environmental allergies, and allergic to almost every antibiotic there is out there.
My doctors (I have 6) say, "you again?"
My pharmary knows me by sight. :S
That's why I decided to do that signature. :)

hey lyonfamily01,

i am in the same boat that you are in. i'm 28 years old, in nursing school and am currently fighting my body and at times i think it's winning. I was diagnosed with hypersomnia about a year and a half ago, i've had ibs since i was a baby and now i have possible lupus. my sed rate was 48 the last time it was checked and i've been waiting about 2 months to see a rheumatologist. my pcp checked me for lupus and ra and everything came back negative but he still thinks i may have it. since this problem started i have had a massive kidney infection, pneumonia and a stomach virus. i think that whatever it is that is causing this elevated sed rate has also shot my immune system.

my appt with the rheumatologist is wednesday so we'll see what he says.

crickiechickie...you sound like me...I had all the same issues as you (I also have Hashimotos'). I had an elevated sed rate or over a year one time hitting 73....just found out I have Lyme disease...joy
