My Wife has Benign Nodules On Her Thyroid

During a routine exam, my wife's endocrinologist discovered my wife had nodules on her thyroid. After this was confirmed with ultrasound, she performed an fine needle biopsy to determine if they were malignant...They were benign, but the doctor advised that my wife consider having it removed anyway, due to the size of them. After consulting with a surgeon, it was determined that the thyroid needed to be removed as well and since they were large, we couldn't have it done by minimally invasive. My wife also has Diabetes, so we wanted to get her blood sugar numbers under control before the surgery to help with healing. about 2 weeks ago, my wife started having pain in her esophagus area after swallowing food or liquid...The pain gets pretty severe about 8 seconds after swallowing. I'm trying to research this online and I'm finding that it could be many things...It could be related to her thyroid situation...it could be GERD...It could be esophageal cancer!! Time stood still when I read that and I went into shock. Even if it's a low chance, it's still something I can't get my mind off of. Does anyone have a similar situation? Any information/feedback would be helpful. Thanks.

Why not have an endoscopy? That will determine. I have GERD. I have multi nodular goiter since 05. They can't have mine. No way. My daughter has had her left lobe removed - no cancer, of course. She is forever changed. On synthroid and cytomel. And iodine.

You know I am so freaked about cancer of the thyroid - I mean this thing is getting huge - I never gave esophageal cancer a thought. No. I had an endoscopy in 06.

I have difficulty swallowing. Some of the supplements get stuck. I sleep on my back with shoulders elevated. I won't take drugs. I will heal with a more natural approach. I have IBS, gastritis and ulcer history. Might have Hashimoto's. My adrenals are jumping ship. i feel like doggy doodoo.

But, I have upped my nutrition. I take extra D3 ( I had melanoma too). B12. Vit C. Selenium. Iodine. Unrefiend Sea Salt drinks. Vit E. Complex B. Coconut Oil. Magnesium. Organic. Free range meats. No preservatives. No hormones.

I also have a history of sinus infections, migraines...oh the list. I am looking into too much copper for some reason. And getting the mercury out of my mouth.

I do lots of infrared saunas. And yoga and licorice root tea. Life is getting better and there isn't a doctor in sight! I see one on the 7th to yell at him about my thyroid and to possibly have another FNA since my first was inconclusive (did you have her slides sent to Univ of Pennsylvania?). Then to a more holistic/natural doc about all the other issues. Yay me.

I hope you find out for sure. But relax. Go do some infra red saunas (health places) they are the best for health. And look into organic - or even gluten free!! Good health to both of you.

ETA: I have bulging discs at C3-4!! Changes at C 5-7. Many doctors after me to have surgery since 1996. Pain under control by ART chiro. Gosh I love ART.

Yes, it could be Gerd, but in my opinion the nodules could be causing it.
Having the thyroid removed does change your life, but many times it's for the better.
Get a second opinion.
