Removed thyroid- good call

This past Wednesday, I had surgery to remove my thyroid. Preliminary pathology report shows 2 small papillary cancers. I guess I made the right call.

I was not a happy camper Wednesday afternoon. Thursday was much better. It's Saturday night, and I'm almost completely off my pain pills.

So far, so good.

Thanks for keeping us updated, Beth. Glad you're through the surgery and recovering, and that you got those nasty cancer cells out of your body!

Although they say that thyroid cancer develops very slowly, I am glad that you did not wait. Why take chances.

Glad to hear that you are doing well.

Next step will be the radioiodine treatment? The treatment itself is not hard, you just swallow a pill. The staying away from everyone is the harder part. Are they giving you that treatment? I know some do not - I guess it has to do with how much and where the cancer was?

I am now about 5 months out and scar is almost invisible and meds are working, not so very fatigued anymore. Get follow up scans in August.

I don't know if I'll get the radioiodine or not. I go back to the endo on Wednesday.

Sorry it took me so long to get back, but I had to go back to the hospital for a couple of days. I have a DVT (deep vein thrombosis- BAAAAAAD clot) in my arm where I had a blown vein from an IV. I'm out again with a new dr (very nice hematologist) . I'm less than thrilled, really.

I'm on a "starter dose" of Synthroid, but I have a feeling it will be bumped up. Just a (tired) feeling about it.
