Anyone take Armour at night?

I'm wondering if I might not be better off taking my Armour medication at bedtime rather than at morning rise?

Funny thing is that NO DOCTOR has ever told me not to take my calcium or iron supplements at least 3-4 hours apart from the thyroid meds, how come??

I've been supplementing with both calcium and iron via my protein shakes ( to which I add lots of supplements) sometimes within 1-2 hours of the thyroid meds. Maybe that's why the meds are not working so well and I still have so many thyroid symptoms?

Can anyone give me their input here on this?

Hi, neither my doctor, nor the chemist where I purchased my thyroid meds and iron tablets together said anything to me either.
I was really quite annoyed at that to be honest. If it weren't for the fact that I hadn't read it myself I wouldn't have known either.
I too have read that article. I like a cup of tea as soon as I wake up. I wonder whether that tiny bit of milk would make a difference?
The thing is I read somewhere that iron supplements are absorbed better at night, so I've always taken them at night.

I too was pretty pissed, and I just found out After 6 years on thyroid meds, it's certainly IMO a low level form of medical negligence.

I maybe wrong, but I don't believe adding a little milk to your tea would qualify vs. taking concentrated calcium or iron supplements which may be in the multi-100's mg category.

If I were you I'd schedule an appointment and discuss this with your doctor and let him know that it would suit your routine better to take it at night. It may take some adjustment as far as levels go if you switch when you take it but you may just be better off, if as you say, so far there has been not much sign of improvement to your symptoms.
I agree, it is pretty negligent of doctors to not address these kinds of things.

Most of what I learned about treating my Hashi's and taking my thyroid meds was NOT from the doctor - it was from research and reading forums and books, etc. One good one is Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms? when My Lab Tests Are Normal: a Revolutionary Breakthrough in Understanding Hashimoto's Disease and Hypothyroidism by Dr. Kharrazian.
Anyway, I used to take my thyroid with a big glass of milk in the morning! After learning not to take it with calcium, I switched to taking it first thing in the morning, shower and get ready for work, and then eat an hour or more after taking it. I hadn't considered taking it at night, but I might try it.

Doctors unfortunately don't really follow their hippocratic oath, because they fail to inform you on so many things...

What's confusing to me is that what I have read applies to levotyroxin and the like, but it seems they haven't studied taking Armour at night?

I'm still taking mine early am, but may switch up to night time to see what happens.

Hello all,

I am usually in the colitis forum because I am dealing with a flare up right now. I am also hypothyroid and take 60mg desiccated thyroid at bedtime. The reason I started taking at bedtime is because it wasn't absorbing properly when I was taking it in the am and by suppertime my gravely voice would return. Since taking them at bedtime I have noticed a difference for the better. I do not often have gravely voice unless I have eaten a bedtime snack right before taking my pills. The dr actually suggested that I take one pill as soon as I wake up and one again at 2:00pm, but I could never remember to take that second pill, so I chose to take both at bedtime and so far so good.
My dr and pharmacists told me to take apart from Calcium and Caffeine! That was hard to do first thing in the morning as I am so used to having my coffee first thing. For me bedtime works best !

So are you on Armour thyroid?
How long have you been taking it at night now?

There's no doubt it would be much easier to take a bedtime rather than first thing in the morning.

As it stands now I take it first thing in the morning and then I have to wait three hours at least before I have my protein shake which has calcium in it.

I think I'm going to try it your way in the next few days.
