16 with auto immine hyperthyroidism, waiting for surgery :) Help!

Hello! im grace, im 16 and i just found this forum becuase im trying to find some people to talk to who know abou tor have had thyroid surgery :)

I was diagnosed with auto immune hyperthyroidism on my 15th birthday, and the doctors said it was the worst case they'd seen as i had had it for so long before anyone found out. i mean my resting heart rate was 130bpm. And my 15 year old brothers in 120 exersizing.
I was severly medicated into hypo, dropped out of school to be home tutored and waiting while i went from 15 tablets a day to the 4 i am now :)

I am now at collage and doing well, but the time has come to when i have my surgery soon, and im worried :)

But for now, what i really want to know is when i meet my surgeon next friday, what do i need to ask? :) any help would be much appreciated!

Welcome to HealingWell, Gazmo. I also had Graves autoimmune hyperthyroidism, but I was treated with radioactive iodine, so can't help much with surgery. My resting heart rate was over 120 when I was diagnosed, funny how something can sneak up on you like that.

We have had others posting about surgery, hopefully they will be around to offer you their wisdom.

In general, I'd want to know how much pain to expect and what medications I will be given for any pain that occurs, what sort of dressing will be put on my neck, how soon can I go back to (whatever my normal activities are), and how long it will take for me to be in a normal hormonal state after the surgery.

Good luck with your surgery, and keep us posted on how you're doing.

Thankyou, thats one of my main fears, i just dont wanna wake up in a lot of pain x

I had my first part of surgery when I was 5 & last part at 14 so I have no thyroid there isn't much to know but when is best time to take your thyroid meds my doctor tells me morning at the sametime&trust me your body will be able to tell& know if it is the sametime. Will be on some kind of thyroid replacement med the rest of your life,I just wish you the best of luck and healthy vibe healing&peace. For thyroid problems can't beat us when we know as much as we can about the disorder&for your immune part,more healthy eating will help too but you can ask your doctor about that and if there aint any foods you shouldn't eat.

thankyou :) im having the whole thing removed so at least i wont gio back into hyperthyroid x Can i just point out that in your signiture you have the 3 illnesses i have :) would you mind if i chatted to you? x
