Hey everyone! I'm new here. Just wanted to pop in and get some advice.
As a bit of a background, I've had elevated TSH or mild/subclinical hypothyroidism diagnosed for probably close to 8 years. TSH has always been in the 6's. I've been on synthroid on two separate occasions - between 4-6 years ago. 50mcg both times and I lasted between 6-12 weeks before having to stop taking it due to hyper symptoms (and complete lack of support from my physician, who didn't even propose I take a smaller dose which I had no idea existed at the time). Anyway, that brings me to today. I haven't taken Synthroid for about 4 years.
My husband and I may start trying to conceive a baby soon. So I saw a new doctor who is quite awesome. Anyway, in September I had my bloodwork drawn and these are the results:
TSH 6.42 [0.20-4.00]
Free T3 4.6 [3.5-6.5]
Free T4 12.0 [9.0-23.0]
Because we want to have a baby, she recommended treating it. So she prescribed 25mcg Synthroid and I decided to break them in half. So for 9 weeks now I've been taking 12.5 mg Synthroid per day. This is my updated bloodwork:
TSH 2.85 [0.20-4.00]
Free T3 5.3 [3.5-6.5]
Free T4 15.9 [9.0-23.0]
Symptom-wise, I didn't have much before treatment. My hair falls out a lot and my skin is dry. Nothing too notable. I do have brain fog here and there, and unfortunately, I've been a bit anxious and stressed lately which could be contributing to it more. I get the "spaced-out" feeling occasionally. And moreso at work where I need to be awake and alert (I'm in health care) which makes me feel like maybe the anxiety is contributing to or causing that. Anyone have thoughts or insight on this whole brain fog thing? My doc suggested some things to help control the anxiety and acupressure and stuff. So I will give that a go.
Any thoughts on my labs? At this point she says I shouldn't have fertility issues related to my thyroid. She's happy with my levels. I can't help but wonder if my TSH should be a bit lower and my free T4 higher?
Thanks in advance. :)
