After months of being tired and weak my doc told me I had an under active thyroid, very under active actually, i started taking 25mg but gave me heart palpitations and made me super anxious so am now halving the tablets…did anyone else have these sensations when new to levo? I also feel like I'm loosing weight on these tablets, loss of appetite, I have always been slim as I do a lot of exercise and eat healthily, its so weird!

Levothyroxine replaces the missing thyroid hormone. Heart palpatations, anxiety and weight loss can all be seen in hyperthyroidism. Perhaps the dose your doctor started you on was too much of an increase for your body all at once. It's usual to start on a very small dose, have new blood tests in eight to twelve weeks, and adjust the medication as your blood levels change. You may have to repeat this process a number of times until your levels are in the normal range and stable.Do you have an appointment to return for more blood tests?

Hello and welcome to the forum,

Can you please post your actual thyroid blood tests results ?

You certainly meant 25 mcg , right ?

Do you use brand name or generic form ? if it is generic then it would be better to switch to brand name, this early, before reaching a higher dose !

In general 25 mcg / day equals 175 mcg / week , so it is possible that the reaction is to the fillers in the medication, specially if it is generic .

hey, thank you both for replying. Yes I have a blood test booked this week. Since a since I have always feared blood tests its such a phobia but important!
Yes sorry its 25mcg, brand is called Eutirox. I live in Madrid so maybe its a Spanish brand.
Yeh I have a sensitive body, and tummy so I guess that it was too much for me. My mum is under active too and I think that I have been undiagnosed for years tbh cos I have always had borderline results since 17 years old. And I'm now 28!
results TSH 10.54 and T4 1,42
