levothyroxine vs synthyroid vs natural?

I know they are essentially the same, one is just the generic form of the other. But I was talking to my PT whose husband had thyroid problems. She said he noticed a stark difference between synthyroid and the generic form. She was doing well on synthyroid but when they switched to another brand he felt terrible again. She told me to talk to my doctor to getting switched to synthyroid.

did anyone else have experience with this?

Also has anyone who was on synthyroid or other synthetic that switched to the natural version feel? Was it days weeks or months before you felt a difference? Or did you feel a difference?

Cheetahjade, I've been on Armour for 3 weeks now, so not enough time to tell a big difference, but two things I've noticed is my brain fog has lifted and I've lost weight. I'd previously been on levothyroxine. My doctor started me off on the lowest dose of Armour. There are medicines and supplements that aren't FDA approved, but that doesn't mean they don't work. Even FDA approved meds are recalled from time to time. I was suffering from side effects related to low T3, and even though I supplemented T3, I still didn't feel well, my hair was falling out, I couldn't lose weight, I constantly had brain fog, so my doctor and I made the decision that was best for me and I'm glad I did.

Sorry, but Armour Thyroid was grandfathered in by the FDA. It was one of the first thyroid replacement drugs and has been around for over 100 years. Synthetic drugs have been around for only a few decades. Some patients report feeling better on natural drugs like Armour. Others, if they have pork allergies, may not. I have taken it for over 20 years and and my medical doctors prescribe it and my insurance pays for it. I think that each patient and doctor needs to make an informed choice as to what works best for the patient.
